well you know, fans of such a base and vile team...you know what, too easy. I love hockey and it displeases me that sports in general get a bad rap from idiot 'fans' rioting and injuring folks because of a win and especially a loss.

(I'm a Blackhawks fan and therefore hate the Canucks, but not the city of Vancouver - it's actually quite nice and it's a shame about the rioting).

I was watching the live feed and there was nothing but douchebag teenagers dancing infront of the riot cops telling them to leave. I told myself I'd give it three more minutes before I turned it off because it was boring, at the three minute mark they broke out the grenade launcher and fired tear gas into the crowd. Pandemonium ensued. Entertaining, and it's exactly what the drunken teenage douches needed.

I can see flames from my house. Someone jumped off a bridge and someone has been stabbed. Police cars are being trashed and set on fire. This is not the work of fans.

Expected. As for why it didn't happen for the Flames the answer is simple; Calgary is a pretty damned boring city. Nice place to live but if you're looking to party or to have teargas shot at you in a riot there are much better places to go. Hell, rioting is one of Montreals major exports though by the looks of it Vancouver is giving a shot as well.

Ya after they lost I just chuckled and said: damn it would sure be nice to cheer for the winning team just once...
Seriously, in the ten years I've been a hockey fan, I haven't cheered for the winner yet. Luckily this curse doesn't carry over into the Olympics.
It is kinda funny though that so many Canadians are calling Vancouver Canada's chance at the cup when in reality there are more Canadians on the Bruins.
Edit: Also I think part of the reason for the riots is that Vancouver has yet to win a cup.

Maybe you guys don't notice, but this happens ALOT in response to hockey and football (BOTH footballs, UK viewers). Win or lose, there is a riot. One year, the Pens won the Stanley Cup, I heard fireworks and car horns, whooping and hollering, and two explosions. That was winning. People get REALLY into sports, so I can't say I blame Vancouver for getting into it. Is not Canada passionate about hockey?

We did not riot in Buffalo in 99 and we were cheated out of that cup.
Comon Vancouver
Ya and neither did us Calgarians when the cup was blatantly ripped from our hands by the worst non-goal call ever made.
Seriously, the Canucks did not show up for that game. They tried and failed but at least they weren't screwed over by terrible reffing. No reason to riot.

To be fair it tough to start a riot when there is a topless women every 2 metres. That's really all I remember ever happening during that playoff run.

Im a canucks fan and i gotta say, id be rioting if i lived there. we were the better team but the refs had better have been bribed, because if that was them trying to call the game fairly i fear for future games with them reffing, and we were really let down. we care about our hockey up here and we are p-o'd that it went this way, we were so close, only to have it snapped away from us. we have waited for 40 years now and we had a great shot, we should have won, but we couldnt get a bounce, and the refs just grrr.

I find this really sad. I'm not going to say "it's just a game" because it's important to a lot of people. But really...

Choose your battles. This is not worth violence.

I'm sorry but the Ref's did not throw this series one way or another. Yes the suspension's were way inconsistent and skewed in Boston's favor, as well as the general media coverage (I'm looking at you Bite-Gate). And yes, NHL Playoff Ref's are usually very suspect (I'm a Wings fan BTW), but ref's cannot sway scoring of 21-4 (the aggregate of Boston's four wins). Vancouver played very poorly tonight, they didn't have great puck control, all the best chances they had at an open net occured when the puck was just outside of stick reach, and they took generic shots. They never controlled the flow of the game and the Ref's didn't change that. Hell there were only like 3 penalties tonight (as well as 1 or 2 that should have been called) which is a far cry from the buttloads we've been seeing out of these two

Right, the refs totally made Tomas block all your shoots. Its more than just refs when you look at the scores of the games boston won. You don't deserve to win unless you win, simple as that. Bad calls happen on both sides and you just take it as part of the game.

Yeah, my girlfriend is from Calgary and she says the Flames' fans weren't even close to being this bad =S
As I remember it, there was a large amount of police and RCMP on the streets and lots of roads were closed to prevent this from happening. I'm surprised that they weren't better prepared for this considering this happened in 1994.

Ya you can hardly say the refs were against the Canucks (I am a Canucks fan btw) I mean did you see the hit to the head on Chara? Comon if anything they were trying to make the Bruins lose. Thomas was just too good and Vancouver played a lousy game. Sad but true.

A fire? Just a fire, a few smashed windows, and a flipped car or two? I feel like I should head on up there and help my northern neighbors figure out what a real riot is like.
I live near Vancouver (Maple Ridge) and I have friends and family living downtown. I'm watching what's happening on the news right now and I'm sorry but what constitutes a riot for you? People are injured, people've been stabbed, and I can assure you it's more than "just a fire" as there are molotov cocktails being thrown around. It's absolute chaos!

I know I'm being extremely defensive but come on... there's no need to say that.
I don't live in Canada. All I see is a news story about a couple of over turned cars and a fire and it being called a riot. Thanks for some clarification on how it has escalated since, and yes you are being quite over defensive about it, because the post was first of all a joke. I don't really want to go up there and show Canada how to riot. That would be absurd.

I mean come on, I know hockey is a big thing (I do live in Canada) but when the Flames lost everyone just went home sad. Why the riots?
Vancouver would have rioted weather they won or lost. That city is wound up like a spring.

Last real chance for the Canucks to win it for a loooong time.
