Ok, ok, I know a topic about a single character isn't the best use of a topic, but I gotta say this.


Vanille. She gives me a weird feeling. And no, not that feeling. Her voice and attitude set her out to be the kind of person where if she even whimpers a bit you'll set out to buy her 4 ponies, 6 kittens and 2 cakes just to make her feel better. Her design makes it seem like she was intended to be attractive.

Yet at the same time, something about her makes me feel as if the police are spying on me, and if I so much as scratch my nuts while she's on-screen I'll get be arrested for pedophilla.


In other news, FFXIII is a great and beautiful game, and I hope it only gets better. Also, I could use a few Padagrim ddesign suggestions so I don't back myself into a corner. Thanks.

I'm not sure what your getting at. Vanille isn't even "jailbait" technically. She's 19 years old and generally speaking doesn't look all that child-like in build. On the other hand she *IS* a quintessential bimbo, generally always perky, upbeat, and both seemingly naive and not too bright. A behavior jokingly associated with blondes. Truthfully I suppose it seems odd and more childlike than it is simply because the whole bubbly bimbo schtick isn't used much anymore in character roles, I guess because some people find it sexist.

There are characters in fantasy, especially Japanese fantasy, that are definatly intended to be underage lolis/jailbait, and some skirt the edges of good taste at times. Vanille isn't one of them. Think of it as someone taking Suzanne Somers character from "Threes Company" removing some of the comedy, and making the character 19, that's basically Vanille.

Everything you might want to know about Vanille including what she's really all about, and the fact that she is basically 500+ years old (and is apparently acting) is there.

Along with Trivia that she has the same actress as Terra (from Final Fantasy VI) and that her Eilodon looks a bit like Terra's armor (which contrary to that link's comments does not strike me as being a coincidence. It has no bearing on the story, and isn't her armor literally of course, but the graphic and actress is meant to be a referance/homage of sorts I believe).


The bottom line is that you have no fear from the police. She's no worse than say having some copies of "Barely Legal" magazine. Barely Legal is stll legal. Truthfully though in her case I don't think she even looks that childlike or "age defying" allowing for the art style and the occasional other child to compare her to in proportion.

first off, he has facial that is probably a 5 o 'clock shadow for him, he seriously probably shaved that morning

I was about 6 hours in when I finally started to like her voice and found her tolerable.

Before, I was considering quiting the game because she was so fucking annoying.

That voice was just awful and most of her dialog was just "Oh...ah...hmm uh ! niha ugh hmph ngh...mmm huh?"

Seriously, it was like listening to a porno.

But after a while, when she stopped making all those squeaky noises, she actually became tolerable.

More than that actually. I ended up liking her. A lot.

I think it's strange how she seems to make noises for every move she makes. Seriously, every other step she's going "Ooh!" or "Ah!". Just generally making those weird, indescribable noises that characters usually make in anime. Like in Dragon Ball Z, where everyone stands completely still with their mouths open, going "UHH. UHH. UHH. UHH."

Still, I gotta admit that I'm not willing to totally dismiss her just yet. I'd like to think that Square's come far enough that they wouldn't create a character as seemingly shallow as Vanille unless she had some horrendously violent past or something equally intriguing. Of the characters I've been introduced to, she's the one I know the least about, so I'm going to wait until the end of the game before I make a final call.

It's important to remember that this IS a Japanese video game after all, and physical build has absolutely no corellation on actual age.

Consider of course, something like "Lucky Star," in which its assortment of 12-year old girls are apparently supposed to be near-seniors in high school. Yeah. DX

Vanille looks her age, so there's no problem. If you're a JRPG fan or someone who watches the occasional anime, then Vanille's character type should be familiar. I've never taken issue with her and the big reveal about her past was saddening.

I thought she sounded a little downy myself. My cousin, my buddy, and my cousin's buddy all tried really hard to figure out what accent she's using; we settled on Australian, but it wasn't a firm decision.
