I actually searched the forum and there was a total of 1 Vanquish thread after its release. I'm pretty shocked by that because it's a fucking Shinji Mikami game and it's just plain fast-paced awesome-sauce. Here's a quote from Eurogamer that does the game justice:

Platinum has extracted the best elements of Western gaming's totem shooters: the cover mechanic from Gears of War, the squad-based progression of Modern Warfare, the environmental degradation from Bad Company and the psychics?bending weapons of Half-Life.

Then it whisks them up with a host of less obvious ingredients. The recurring hail of tracer gunfire is taken from Cave's "bullet hell" shoot-'em-ups; the gigantic boss battles are borrowed from a Metal Gear Solid cut-scene; the constant score-attack incentives are lifted from Geometry Wars. Then it tops the recipe off with set-piece after set-piece stolen from the idea safe hidden deep within Christopher Nolan's creative consciousness.

Vanquish is so good fucking Christopher Nolan is required to properly describe the game.

Anyways, on to my thoughts about the game. I'm not really one for replaying through games right after I beat a game; however, I'm halfway through and I know I'll play through it again. The gameplay is just super addictive to where you wanna get better at the game like Bayonetta. Right after you play through a section, you'll want to replay it because you now know enemy placement and level design so you can now get the right set of weapons and make it look even more stylish. Also, I couldn't care less about the leaderboards and scoring, I just want to get good at this game because it's so fun. In a sense Vanquish is very much like Bayonetta where the gameplay was a blast (I just HAD to master Dodge Offset because it was so cool) and the fact that the game forced you to get better on higher difficulties is what kept me playing Bayonetta, the unlockables were just the icing on the cake in my opinion. I started Vanquish on Hard but moved down to normal so I could be more stylish, I'll play next on hard once I know the levels because hard was pretty tough out of the gate for someone who mastered the demo. And, I read God Hard was really really hard.

Here's a few tips that I have learned from the game. The disk launcher gun does not use the suits energy to melee, and it's the only weapon you can melee with without causing the suit to overheat. I would suggest not equipping both the assault rifle and the heavy machine gun at the same time because they pretty much do the same function. Use the other 2 weapon slots for other guns like the disk launcher and shotgun. The LFE gun is real useful in several situations, it's like a better shotgun but it's range is worst, and it really clears the area when you got lots of enemies on you.

Vanquish wasn't really on my radar, until I played the demo. The gameplay was smooth and fun, the mechanics interesting and it looked quite good.
Now I'm actually considering picking it up, so it's good to read some positive reviews.

The game is definitely on the short side, that's probably the biggest factor that would keep someone from buying the game. I'm at the 4 hour mark and I'm at the end of Act 3 (there are 5 Acts). Some people have beat the game in 5 hours but I always play games at a slower clip, I like looking about for weapons after a battle and looking for these hidden statue things in the game. My first playthrough of Metal Gear Solid 3 was at over 25 hours as I loved CQC and I took my time and CQCed every guard in the game and slit their throats. Vanquish is definitely a game you should only buy if you know you'll want to play through it again. If you enjoyed playing the demo a few times, you'll probably feel like playing the game at least twice as well.

Kmart still has this Killer Deal [http://www.mykmart.com/mykmart_blog/Vanquish-launch-offer] going for Vanquish. I got Castlevania and Vanquish for $90 plus a $20 coupon to use later.

The PS3 version of Vanquish states (on the box) that it supports Custom Soundtrack but this feature is not in the game. I really wanted to play Queen's Don't Stop Me Now during my multiple playthroughs of the game. I actually made a support ticket on Sega's website about this because it is FALSE advertising.
