they're playing with something called "Theological Evolution" now.

It's definitely a step up from Intelligent Design, which was basically Creationism with gods place being replaced by an ambiguous "Someone" and then calling it science.

Now they're letting science tiptoe in their book, deciding that it's ok to take Genesis as an allegory, and to believe that god pulled the strings with evolution.. It still makes me a little sick, but I gotta say, if they want to believe in evolution and pretend that god pulled the strings, that's a lot better then intelligent design, the biggest farce I ever heard.

Wow, they are rather late. Give it a few hundred years they might recognize lightbulbs as something other than jesus in a box.

It's at the top of the god-damned page, and you still didn't manage to read it.

Give it a couple hundred years, you might recognize forums as something other than a place to spew your opinions on impulse.

And don't get me started on how few people see lightbulb as anything but a form of magic. You're a Pratchett fan, read some Science of Discworld.

A) I'm just making a joke

B) I just wanted to say, that he put his theory out a long time ago, and they might not have disagreed with it but it is a bit strange it took them this long, followed by a joke that maybe they will start on other stuff.

C) Ouch, calm down.

D) I didn't read through the whole thread, I apologize but I don't get past the first page on topics over 5 pages, less and I will read them, but it takes too long and I have stuff to do (not being dickheaded) and I just wanted to say what I pointed out in B), I usually go through the first page, sometimes the second then read a few posts before me before posting to see what others think.

E) And I don't get the form of magic thing. Are you saying people think lightbulbs are magic? If you are I always thought Pratchett was just describing sciences in a way looked at from a world where magic is more common than science, I never thought people actually believed in magic.

Might have got that wrong I am a bit confused.

The vatican decides that not all the bible is fact. Now you have to figure out which bits ARE fact and which is just story telling?

Personally I think the whole Jesus bit was made up but take Lots story as fact...

Lot lived in the unfortunately named town of sodom. 2 angels visited his house and the natives of sodom were a bad lot a bit like the residents of Newcastle-on-Tyne. They insisted that Lot send out these two angels so a gang of the locals could "know" them (rape).

Lot being a couragous unpstanding member of the community said he wouldnt but instead -wait for it- offered to send out his virgin daughters for rape. And you wonder why society is sexist? Western societies values are based on Christianity.

In the end no one gets to "know" anyone and these angels tell Lot and his family to leave because God is going to nuke the city, the Americans didnt give anyone at Hiroshima the same curtesy.

Theyve been told not to look back as they leave Sodom but Lots wife does (you would, its the best fire works show in written history and fireworks havent bee ninvented yet) and That Spitful petty deity obviously hasnt racked up enough frags nuking Sodom so he turns Lots wife into salt... for looking over her shoulder. Not big on forgiveness or rehab huh?

The vatican is famous for back tracking. Like when the pope decided purgatory didnt exist anymore, just like that.
That's odd, I thought Hell was the Pagan idea, and Purgatory the Christian.

And ye, he did flick the switch, and the room was filled with light.

Ritual *poof* Effect.

People say 'magic is for kids' and then go about their day as unaware of the things that make the world function as a wizard why his fingers make fire. It's under a different name, but the normal frame of mind for people is that effect is related to cause, and that the cause was them wanting the light on. Much better explained by Pratchett, of course.

And my reaction is perfectly justified. If you want to jump into a thread with one line of opinion and faux-wit then you had better be prepared to be viewed as the kind of person who does that. I believe you ran into the phrase I am searching for in a thread a while back.

Im not sure of hells origins but its definately been adopted by christians. The stick to the living forever carrot.

Purgatory was gods waiting room and the less of a douche youd been the less time you spent there. Of course your family could donate money to the church to let you jump the queue. It doesnt exist any more because some pope said so. Just disappeared, poof!

1. Please, stay on topic.

2. Please, this isn't a religion bashing thread.

3. Please, look up Georges Lemaître sometime. :) The likes of Jesus Camp is not representitive of Christian people.
