Already, I already know you need a user created fix to be able to even play the PC version of Dark Souls, and I've also read other topics that the game is terrible with keyboards.

I was wondering if fix helps make the keyboard work any better or if gamepad is the only way to go.

Thanks for any support and also any opinions on the expanded content, game after the fix and the online community of the game.

As far as I know the fix helps with the keyboard+mouse (it even hides the cursor! Yeah, you see the mouse cursor in vanilla...the Windows cursor) but it's not exactly making it as good as the controller itself. I'd really recommend an Xbox controller with the game.

From my understanding, there are fixes out there that dramatically improve using keyboard and mouse, but since I have no firsthand experience with these, I would only recommend getting the game if you have a controller.

I'd still recommend a controller... but the DSFix mod does do a little bit to help the controls and there's another mod that helps with the keybindings and mouse, I believe.

I generally play offline and/or hollowed, so I can't speak for the online community, but after the DSFix and with a controller, I absolutely adore Dark Souls, even as blemished as the port may be. It's no worse than the console version, at least (again, at least with a controller. I've not played it on Mouse&Keyboard and don't particularly feel inclined to try), and in some ways the DSFix makes it better anyway.

Thanks for the responses, I mostly gauging the use of getting the game with the extra content + a gamepad controller, as I lack a wired one, or if just attempting to get the extra content on the console.
