Hey guys,

Sorry for yet another SONY thread

Anyways, I've not been on VGcats.com in a long time, as Scott doesn't really update all that much. I decided to check it out today and saw a new comic.

Don't know you, the one time that he responds immediately to something, it's the SONY issue going on. Now this isn't an issue and I'll admit, with personal information at stake, I'm freaked out too. The lengths in which VGcats takes it though, I find way too far.

VGcats basically says that for all the good that SONY did guarding our info, they may as well have left it all out beside a dumpster with only a sign as a guard.

Now the news tells me that I.C.O is demanding answers, but we have no idea how tough SONY's security was or just how long it took the hackers to get in and take the information.

Basically, it's just blind exaggeration for the sake of getting a good laugh and taking a shot at Sony's blunder.

What do you guys think? DO you wish to wait a while longer to get the information on how SONY fell, or have you been angered enough that you don't care?

You might as well link it, as long as it's not advertising, the Escapist don't mind, I think.

Anyway, for what I think? It's a comic and a cheap shot. It's not really funny either, rather meh in fact, but you shouldn't really take it that seriously, comics both on and offline have been doing this for ages.

I'm not sure what you mean "Sony fell", they're taking a hit sure, but I hardly think they'll be out of business after this. The only thing I really wish is the PSN to get back up so I can use it. No amount of pressure of bullshit lawsuits are going to speed up that process, I have no reason to doubt that their people are working as hard as they can to get the system back up again. Anything else is just bad business.

Well done, you've just described the internet, Family Guy and most comedians,

Didn't mean Sony fell as in bankruptcy, but people everywhere are talking about how they're abandoning Sony over this and I think it's stupid.

Basically the mental image I draw is like that of a bank being robbed. Sure, the defenses were breached, but when security reviews the tapes, and people see the news, they really only see those 2 hours when the burglars broke in, took everything, and left. They see the criminals by-pass all the systems easily and make off with cash. They suddenly thing the bank is a joke and stop using them. They don't see the potential weeks or months of planning behind it. Yes, they got robbed, but it wasn't by a toddler with a mobile and a crib.

Same thing with SONY. People act like they're a joke because they got hacked. Which I'll admit, they did. It's understandable. What bout the french hacker that got arrested a while ago after admitting to hacking into the FUCKING ARMY! Did anyone say "That tha Army is a joke" or "Imagine what they could have taken!" No. All I heard was "Fuck... He's good. Army's gonna step up security a bit now"

It's the same thing here. Someone's good at hacking, someone hacked Sony. Sony fucked up and didn't tell everyone right away, Sony's learning the lesson.

Right, I mistunderstood your sentence before then. But I agree, which was pretty much what I meant by "bullshit lawsuit". I'm not about to abandon, I thoroughly enjoyed their products, both 1 and 3(I skipped the generation with the 2nd), all I really want is for PSN to get back up. I haven't been wronged by Sony in any shape or form ever, so I don't see why I should get compensation for me using the PS3.

From my point of view, the people behind the lawsuit have just been waiting for a oppertuniy to sue Sony for a lot of money. Who're the greedy lowlife bastards now, huh? As you can hear, I'm pretty pissed about the lawsuit, it won't speed anything up and I'm particularly pissed about being included in it. "on behalf of one Kristopher Johns and the other 76,999,999-ish PSN users in the world" Fuck that, sue for yourself, but don't drag me down with you. Kristopher Johns that is, not you OP.

They can't actually include you unless you sign to join a class action. Trust me, it's a joke move. If people join him, sure. He can sue on behalf of us, be we had nothing to do with it

Well, that's good to hear. If the PSN going down has really hurt him that much, he seriously needs to get his life together. I really hope he loses, so that I get to laugh at him.

Well, I have no idea how true any of this is but I can't deny I laughed at

Mainly because it seems like the sort of thing that could (an might have) happen(ed).

I don't even own a PS3 and this breach is incredible (I WAS considering getting one, I own no consoles atm). 77M records downloaded? did they not even notice the extra load of the entire contents of their database being stolen? I'm not an expert and I have no real idea what Sony's security measures were, but I'm also hard pressed to remember another time a company has lost details for 77M customers including (apparently) unencrypted passwords. There are also blogs out there saying that PSN transfers CC details unencrypted. So yes, if they stored user's passwords in an unencrypted state sony have a lot to answer for.

Thing is, I don't think Sony are any WORSE than any other company I can name, it just hasn't happened to those other companies YET.
