My samsung monitor has a VGA and a HDMI connector while my new GPU will have 2 HDMI so up untill now I was using just the VGA without the HDMI. Will I have to use both HDMI and VGA and so should I get a VGA->HDMI connector or should I just stick the VGA into my motherboard? One more thing the monitor was working with only VGA as long as I just plugged it into the GPU if I tried sticking it into the motherboard it "no signal"ed me.

When you get your new graphics card, stick with HDMI and only HDMI. There are several issues with using VGA these days, like HDCP compliance for high definition content. HDCP will not be an issue with HDMI.

Also, don't bother with any VGA/HDMI converter cables or boxes. As long as your new graphics card and monitor(s) have HDMI, you won't need anything like that.

Once you successfully installed your graphics card, all video got routed through it and not through your motherboard.

As far as abandoning VGA, well...I like having it, but it's a very, VERY old standard. There probably isn't any reason to keep buying GPUs, laptops, and televisions with VGA in/out ports.

VGA, or D-sub as the connector is called, was mostly phased out with the appearance of DVI, which HDMI is a part of. VGA is analogue only, while DVI supports both (backwards compatibility that turns the signal into VGA, basically), and HDMI is only digital.

My new TV doesn't even have VGA-port, which I find almost satisfactory, I've been waiting for it to go away for years. As long as there's DVI out on GPUs and motherboards, VGA will exist, but only via a DVI-I plug.

Captcha: just in time. No, too little too late, Forum.

EDIT: And no, you won't need to connect more than one plug to your monitor, HDMI is fully capable of transferring the picture all on its own.
