Ahoy, yon Escapists. I beseech thee, help me with my problem.

So, I'm the kind of guy who would like to record game footage from my television. But how? I'm really at a loss here. Any affordable solutions to my recordin' needs? I refuse to hold a camera up to a TV screen. Help appreciated.

For discussion value, do you record yourself playing games? Got any proof?

Can't you simply use a DVD or HDD recorder if you hook up your console to it first instead of plugging it straight to the TV? Worked with VHS.

Unfortunately, I don't have no fancy-shmancy DVD recorder. Are they expensive?

Not sure. They aren't that expensive, are they? At least you'd think there'd be plenty of cheaper models.

Of course DVD recorder would mean somewhat limited recording time with HD quality. HDD one might be a better idea if you want to do that... Or just don't like playing around with the discs.
