I have been out of the loop computer-wise since I built my computer a few years ago, and it's about time for a graphics upgrade. I have a hard limit to cost at $300. I have no preference nvidia or amd/ati, so either is fine. I'm currently running a 570. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162075
Another question is going SLI getting a 2nd of that card, or doing a single card upgrade.

Either the AMD R9 280x or the 7970. Performance wise they are very close but you should be able to find a good deal on the 7970.

Seconding the 7970 - it seems to have come down a fair bit in price recently.

I'm probably going to pick one up to crossfire with my current 7950 at some point.
