Video Game Cults

What video game do you think would have the best (be that exciting, terrifying or funny) religious cult.

Personally I would love to see the members of the Cult of the Katamari. Seeing guys in The Prince's hats running around spouting off about the end of the world and how we must rebuild to save the sky would be fun as hell to watch.

I find religious cults a bit hard to do well. I guess it doesn't help that all religions look a bit batshit insane to outside observers, especially when they've had time to develop oddities due to secular reasons (I suppose that's almost by definition, if a religion didn't have its own distinct worldview, there'd be no point to it).

I'm going to mention the Church of Optimology [footnote]It hurts[/footnote], cause apparently it's scientology IM SPACE...cause lots of celebrities joined? Yeah, doesn't seem compelling evidence for me.

Was going to say, I already consider the hardcore FFVII fandom to be the closest thing to video game cult members so we're not too far off.

Yeah it tends to get a bit annoying JRPG has good story so I love them

So, kind of like Christianity but with more sensible hats.
I'd join; I already get that theme song stuck in my head at least once a week. There isn't any sort of self immolation necessary is there?

I kind of get the feeling that there already game cults... like in that South Park episode where the kids got really fat.

But that's a cult in name only, for a game with a 'cult' following. A cult following that's split between the the 1st game only purists and sequel "fanboys".
