Hey, remember when people were calling the casting of Prince of Persia/The Last Airbender whitewashing?

And everyone called those people idiots, and said that as long as the cast was good that it didn't really matter if they were the proper ethnicity?

Well, there's a Kane and Lynch movie in the works, and they've cast Jamie Foxx as Lynch (Or was it Kane? I can't remember.)

Like everyone said, it doesn't really matter as long as he's a good actor (I've personally never watched any of his movies, but he got an Oscar for something,) so no one's getting their panties in a twist. Oh wait, they totally are.

Now, in one of my previous threads about entitlement issues, there was some confusion as to who I was referring to. I'm not talking about this site. It's more on gametrailers, IGN, etc.

My question is, what would you chalk this up to? The answer seems pretty obvious to me.

And everyone's going to call these people idiots too. What do you want from us, a race discussion?

I have no idea who Jamie Foxx is... I'm not much of a film buff.

But yeah if the actor fits the part perfectly then who cares about whitewashing or anything?

Maybe if you replace an entire asian cast with white then something seems a bit off...

Because Jamie Foxx is black and whoever he's playing is white... it's just strange. The thing about the Last Airbender is that there were no actual races in the show and honestly, to me they looked white. And in Prince of Persia again they weren't the same race but they were close. This is going to come off as stupid, but the contrast is too big. When you have a black guy playing a white guy, that's a much more noticeable difference than, say, and Indian guy playing an Asian guy (I know India is in Asia, you know what I mean). I'm not saying that they should have changed everything around, it's just now the difference is going to be so noticeable it will be distracting.

And also, it's not a matter of race, it's a matter of looking like the characters.

Movie

Game

Personally, I think they look close enough.

Lynch is the guy with the sunglasses... I think... I never played the game...

Jamie Foxx

He's a great actor... but he looks absolutely nothing like him.

Well, if they can get a good actor who can convey the presence/meaning of a character better than any other contemporary actor of the same race its fine with me. A good example would be when they casted Michael Clark Duncan as the Kingpin in the Daredevil movie, lousy movie for sure but I like MCD as an actor. Now as for Jamie Foxx... Well I'll decide after the movie, I mean I thought Ray was ok, but lets face it, he was just kind of going through the motions, only other movie I watched with him in it was collateral, fine movie but neither has really pushed him as an actor. A good example of bad character race change would be when they were considering having the next Spider man be played by Donald Glover, its not he cant pull of being a spazzy nerd (that's what he is on Community) its just why dont they try actually making movies about black superheroes instead of messing with famous series. Not that I think the guy they got to play is any better but changing up established cannon for no other reason than just shits and giggles is frustrating.

And yet there was a huge group calling for a black Spider-Man. *sniff sniff* I smell hypocrisy.

What would I chalk this up to you ask? I chalk this up to one of my favourite quotes which just so happened to have been from our own Yahtzee Croshaw.

Except he did.

As for why he posted the thread, god forbid he wants to know what everyone thinks. It never stopped you from posting a bad idea, did it?

Me? I say the same thing I did when we found out about the so-called "whitewashing" of The Last Airbender. Why do we care what race the actor is? It won't matter if the movie winds up sucking anyway, as game to film adaptations usually do.

I'm just pointing out here that many movies based on games have been utter failures. I'm not looking forward to this.

You're all looking at this the wrong way. He's a fine actor. His presence might actually create a paradox where the movie is better than the game.

Not that that would take all that much.
