It's not a close kept secret that movies recycle things from other movies.
Not only props, but plots, backgrounds, and even that well known scream.
A few more examples can be found in this cracked article [http://www.cracked.com/article/231_5-things-hollywood-reuses-more-than-plots/].

But what about video games?
Sure, sequels will probably have a lot of their assets recycled from the previous game, but what about completely different games.

I'll give an example;
That Gun [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/That_Gun] from Fallout New Vegas makes the exact same sound when reloading as Sam Fisher's Night Goggles did in the first Splinter Cell.

So, what kind of sound, asset, item, animation or background in a video game have you seen that has been used before in a different game?

Creaking doors. I'm pretty sure I've heard a specific creak lots and lots of times. I'm not sure which game it actually has it, though, but it was definitely the same, not just similar sounding. I've even heard it in some movies - it felt...weird.

I'm not sure if it counts, but most of the games in the Shin Megami Tensei series recycle the enemies. Not just through Persona 4 and 5, but you'll also find those enemies in Nocturn, Devil Summoner and Digital Devil Saga. They might even be the same models.

On a similar note, there are monsters you can find throughout several different games, some of which they have no business being (Zombies).

Well I have noticed that Insomniac games and Naughty Dog recycle some of their sounds from Spyro and Crash respectively to Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter respectively.

With Ratchet and Clank, there were some frog looking enemies that make the exact same sounds as frogs from the Spyro games.

With Jak and Daxter, I recognize the ice skating sound that was used in Crash 2.

Since they are all part of the same franchise, I'm not sure it counts, but Final Fantasy has been recycling themes, enemies, weapons and abilities for years.
There's also a Japanese dev called EasyGameStation that made Recettear and Chantelise use the same universe for 2 differant games.

Valve does this a lot with sound effects. In Portal 2 there are still some sound effects from Half-Life 2 and possibly even the first Half-Life.

In Team Fortress 2, the health packs make the same sound as the ones in Half-Life 2.

Free music, specifically this one:
Yesso's Horse and carriage. can a Soundtrack really label itself Original (OST) when it consists of free public music?
