Hey all,

Just been reading random reviews and it got me thinking...I know what I look for when reading a review...what do you all look for in a good game review? Anything missing you wish that current reviewers would add to game reviews? What information is lacking in current reviews that you wish were there or that you like to have that helps you create an informed decision?

Thanks all!

I like it when a game reviewer uses actual video footage to back up his critizism os a game. Gametrailers.com does this a lot in their reviews. And video footage in general, since I NEVER make my decisions based of off actual review score, rather I use them to inform myself about the game, like finding out how many hours long it is, etc.

I like detailed descriptions of the game as a whole, and of the strengths and the problems. I also like a reviewer to give their honest and blatant opinion. A review is simply the written opinion of someone considered to be a relative expert in the field; it is their opinion, and I like for them to not pretend they are presenting objective fact. Give the ups and downs, but also acknowledge the aspects of the game that you are not that experienced in, or have a personal dislike for. The entire thing is the opinion of the reviewer, so I like them to not pretend they're only presenting objective fact.

You know some people would say to be a good reviewer you have to take personal opinion out of the equation but I find that pretty hard to say the least. Thanks Thaius

Travatan, taking personal opinion out of a review pretty much takes...the review out of it.

A good reviewer will be in touch with their own personal predilections, acknowledge them, and account for them when offering criticisms and giving a score. If I know I don't like sports games and I'm asked to review one, I'm going to say, "Okay, I know I don't like sports games, so I need to be sure to compare it to other sports games, not genres I prefer."

So everyone could easily agree that transperency and honesty in a reviewer is important?
