Should Video Games be classified to the T like biological classification?

Example: How would two games be classified if one was a role playing game with shooter mechanics and a shooting game with role playing mechanics?

Would both be classified as rpg shooters? Would have have more rpg and shooting and vice versa?

In my experience with vague genres, if somebody likes a game, they'll classify it as the genre they like. If they don't like it, then it's obviously part of the genre they dislike.

Captcha: "Invote, Conrad".

How would you classify and animal that had all the traits of a mammal, reptile, avian, amphibian, and fish?

To answer your example directly, i believe they are classified as RPS- Role Playing Shooter.
Though i do think that, although mainly fine, we do need to reclassify some games.

To answer your first question: No.
It helps to reduce descriptions but sometimes it goes too far... Games would be better (at the very least, more varied) if they didn't have to stick to conventions of genres. In fact, most of "game taxonomies" were created by PR people to distinguish their games from the competition (for example, the terms "Survival Horror" didn't exist until Capcom created it to identify Resident Evil)
