That said, I do think it was stupid of him to dismiss video games as art just based on 3 videos in a presentation by one woman. Still, glad to see it's official now - it's been long enough. Now games are up there with every other entertainment medium, as they should be.

Video games are a composite of the things I listed. They all come together to create the experience that a video game gives.
Like in a purely visual composite, if one image is low quality or otherwise poor, it detracts from the overall composite image. Likewise, if one factor of a videogame is bad, be it terrible, unfitting music, poor character animations or a horrible plot, it detracts from the overall game experience. An art gallery merely contains art. One bad piece doesn't necessarily effect the other pieces, but it can.
Arranging (or compositing) other pieces of art can be considered an artfrom, as I mentioned above. So yes, an art gallery could be considered art. Ever heard the expression "an artful arrangement of?"
Well, it is possible to have an artful arrangement of art.
Anyway, Architecture can also be considered an artform. Therefore, buildings can be art. Whether or not it's an art Gallery is irrelevant, but there could be a magnificent work of architecture that is also an art gallery.
While the government's backing is nice, I could've sworn that video games became art the very instant that someone making one used it as a medium of expression. I guess I'm glad everyone else is catching up now, though.
The only reason why this is good for the US:
It means it gains protection from censorship.
Why this is actually really depressing to think about:
Most people will be celebrating a fact simply because it justifies there ego. Their not happy that developers everywhere are now able to protect their ideas with government backing. There happy because it means they can call there 16 hour halo marathon a tribute to fine art.
What makes me sigh personally however was the big kerfuffle (That's a real word apparently so i am using it) is all the people saying "Fuck Roger ebert!"
Seriously. Who the fuck cares what he says. Hell, how many people even knew who he was before they read the PA comic about it. And to anyone who actually did know who he was before what did you care what some old fart thinks about how you choose to kill time? People are screaming fuck Roger Ebert? If this old fart had that much of an effect on your life that your first thought is sticking it to some guy you have never met and whose opinion literally doesn't matter any more then you desire it then... Well... I don't really know what to say...
