Agreed, time limits should not be a focus point of the game, or even a major part of the game. Howver, there are several instances where I feel it has been done well. One such example is the ending of Halo 1, when you have only a certain amount of time to escape. It makes sense in the context of both the game situation and story and does not feel too forced or artificially jammed together.
So, in certain instances a time limit of sorts might be called for and be a good addition to the scenario, but it should be used sparingly and considering gameplay aspects and the applicability to the storyline.
