Ever since I was a youngin' (who here remembers videostation, megamovies and wolco?) I have been renting games and movies alike. This is my litmus test for if a game/movie is worth my $50+ bucks. Probably the same for most of you since I have long since learned a demo doesn't tell me sweet tweet about a games worth. And now...today infact...I find out that my local Rogers video and soon Blockbuster will be out of business. Infact, by the end of this year there respective companies will be out of business all together...atleast in Canada(and I can only assume your neck of the woods aswell). So what are your takes on this occuring, and what can people...namely me...do to test games/movies in the future? What does this mean for the future of gaming/viewing to you and wtf?

I don't think I've actually rented anything in around 10 years now. I usually just go off of what other people say, or use a gut instinct.

Huh, I didn't even know this was happening. Those companies have been around for so long...it'll be weird for them not to be there.

Regardless, I don't rent movies/games any more, mostly because the store I buy my movies (and sometimes games) is actually cheaper than renting. Yes, the movies are usually not NEW RELEASES, but buying movies for $2.50 a DVD, I can't complain.

I think it just means that online rental will be more popular. It's sad but when was the last time you went to a video store? I can only hope that one day the video store becomes "retro" and makes a comeback.

Video rentals have become outdated, their generally more expensive then just buying it pre-owned from somewhere like Ebay or Amazon. The only reason I can see to rent instead of buy like this is because you need the film right that very day.

And video game rentals is something I've never understood. I don't understand why you would rent a video game, as generally your given them for 3-7 days, whereas a game like Fallout New Vegas demands at least 7 days to complete fully.

With a dollar extra a day I can tell within 3-7 days if I want to buy it new, pre-owned buy, or toss it. If you cant pass the game in 7 days its worth a buy. If you havent tried to shred your controller within 3, I feel its worth the money to possibly purchase preowned. Anything less is not worth the money in my opinion. This plan works for me and has for over 20+ years.

I havent looked at the amazon/ebay price comparison. If its comparible or cheaper than renting than I'll be using that idea, thankyou for the message.

EDIT: Guess this dog has to learn new tricks.
