What's an acceptable size for a video uploaded to YouTube? I have some footage from the Guild Wars 2 beta that I'd like to upload. All the footage was taken with Fraps at 50% resolution (840x524) and 30 fps. I've then been editing and resizing in VirtualDub and encoding using Xvid, with the audio separately encoded with CDex (LAME).
I'm particularly looking at a 7:25 video resized to 856x480 (with borders). I can get the file size anywhere from 191 Mb (which looks the kind of quality I see other people use on YouTube) to 70 Mb (when the loss of quality is showing but still passable) and anywhere between. Is there a rule of thumb for the kind of quality one would expect from a video of that length and resolution on YouTube?
Any suggestions on superior programs and codecs to use are also appreciated, though I'm only looking for free software at the moment (I did pay money for Fraps and that was well worth it admittedly).
