I work at Toys R' Us in the RZone (aka the electronics department, I dont know why they call it that) and to be honest I find this kind of shocking and expected at the same time. We sold out of almost every single type of game that was even remotely popular multiple times, and were slammed with bussiness at all times. The new Donkey Kong game we actually sold out of 4 TIMES in a 10 day period (with over 250 copies shipped to us). I had days where we were using all 4 registers and had 2 people running the floor, and it still had more people in there than Black Friday.
However, Toys R Us does a terrible job replenishing games that are sold. 2 Weeks after Christmas, and I have yet to see a single copy of Call of Duty Black Ops, Halo Reach, Fallout New Vegas, New Super Mario Brothers, NBA 2k11 (or any sports game to be honest, although everyone in our area had that problem), or Epic Mickey come in that wasnt a return. We got to the point where we were relying on people to RETURN GAMES to replenish our stock. I realize this was how many stores were, but you obviously cannot sell games if you dont have them in in the first place.
Games weren't the only place we had problems with either, for some reason, we didnt get a single Playstation move or Xbox Controller after Black Friday (and still dont have any) At the same time, we just got a shipment of over 30 wii remotes last week, and recieved regular shipments every few days. I've heard rumors of shipping errors and shortages, but when I can walk to the Gamestop just a few stores up and find 15 new Xbox Controllers, I think something is up.
I dont know if my store is the exception, but if Toys R Us wants to sell more games, they need to put out the image that they actually have these games in the first place, otherwise they'll be lucky to sell any at all. We would have buy one get one 50% off every game in the store, and I would have gamers walk in surprised, who had no idea the sale was going on in the first place.
