I would nominate the track from Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate (It's really old, I think it came out 98).

The track starts at 1:39.

So, will this help steer more people towards games being art, seeings as the Grammy also awards classic compositions and whatnot?

Cool beans. Now we just need them to retroactively give out awards to games of the past.

referring to Chrono Cross mostly

Good for videogames I guess. I am still waiting for the Grammy Awards to respect Heavy Metal as a music genre and have the genre receive its own awards like every other genre. But that probably won't happen. Heavy Metal used to have one award given out for "Best Metal Performance", but it is being combined with "Best Hard Rock performance" starting next year. Heavy Metal bands will have a more difficult time winning an award because they will be against the more accessible Hard Rock.

What music would the Escapist userbase nominate?
Off of the top of my head?

Marty O Donnell (halo)

I'm not the biggest Halo fan, but I agree 100%. Man is a genius when it comes to music.

Anyway, my choice would be this:
Listen to that and tell me it is not epic. Also, this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2019-Videogame-Music] might be relevant.

EDIT: For whatever reason, my Youtube embed seems to not be working, so here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECjDfQd8QVc] is a link to the video. It is the Metal Gear Solid 2 theme.

Good.

I don't care if you hate halo like it killed your family and raped your mother, you have to admit it has some badass music.

It, along with whoever does LoZ's music and metroid, deserves this ASAP.

About damn time. Video game music is one of the few things about this industry that consistently gets better. At the very least, it hasn't gone downhill. Good to see credit given where it's due.

Sweet, maybe now i'll actually start watching the Grammy's. I'd like to see The World Ends With You get nominated for something, it probably wouldn't win but it still deserves to be nominated.

Let's not forget the C&C series, it has a lot of good music.

And if the trailer is anything to go on, i would preemptivly nominate Skyrim's soundtrack.

If the video game industry wants to cop a Grammy for a category that includes the motion picture industry, they better be prepared to spend the kinda money that the motion picture industry spends on lobbying NARAS' voting members. Grammys aren't earned, they're bought.
