I'm in a good mood right now, they never seem to last, so let's try and bring the love.

Why do YOU like/admire/love video games?

(I am in a good mood because the obscure games quiz reminded me about Devil Dice, by the way.)

Feel free to level insults at me.

Great way to use my imagination and make me think. Also, they're plain ol' fun.

I just love exploring new worlds and having adventures :3. It's also nice to play co op games with my friends

My most played (in hours) games are free roaming RPG's like Fallout 3 and Skyrim although the majority of my games are shooters hehe.

they gave me Zelda when I was 6, to this day I still play this series. They taught me to love fantasy, got me into reading, and taught me English!

What do I love about video games? Hoo boy that's a tough one.

I guess they each provide me an entrance to a world beyond my own. A place to escape to so to say. They provide me with worlds beyond my own, challenges to overcome, stories to unfold, people to meet, and places to see.

I guess immersion would be the proper term for it, but I don't really like using that word personally. I just love playing video games for the reasons above. Simple as that.

I believe this will make everything clear.

Well...

there's a game where I can shoot flaming midgets in the face with a shotgun, and the cel-shaded style will make this look absurdly pretty.

there's a game where I use jetpacks and lasers to fight the Spanish across 17th century colonial Mars.

there's a game where a town full of French people all force me to solve puzzles before they'll talk to me.

there's a game where I have to fight the evil wizard because he happened to build his super fantasy-cliche-ish fort over the climate control center and if I can't get a certain android there to retake control of it or else the space satellites that we use for... yknow, climate control, will turn the entire planet into unlivable desert.

Basically: All the reasons that I have for reading books or watching television, AND all the reasons I have for playing Risk or Egyptian Ratscrew or insert whatever other game here, often in the same package.

Looking at the majority of my games i have to second THIS.
It doesn`t really matter if i shoot them, beat them up, drive over them or slice them, etc in the end it`s the same result... and i get my fun.
Combining killing with puzzeling, adventuring and a good story doesn`t hurt either.

I don't know what speicifcally.
I love the room for creators to stretch the wings of their imagination and bring life to the unreal.
I like interacting with a world. I love tiny details that bring a world to like.
I like being given interesting powers to use.
I like how it's possible to both make the experience of doing something well and badly.
I like to watch character in a story, which is why I can understand some developers desire to make things "cinematic" because it makes it easier to craft a specific experience and action of a character and convey it how you want.

I don't know what I like, I just know that I like it.

Games are the best way for fun and immersion to combine seamlessly IMO. And that's good enough for me.

*ahem*

Finding Super Missiles
Hiding in the dark with your radio's white noise getting louder
Refilling your lamp with oil only to find a monster outside the room
Finding your chief engineer getting drunk very carefully
Finding all ten minikit parts
Finally defeating Maleficent, only for her to become a dragon and kick your ass a few dozen times more
Defeating the campaign on legendary
Giving Desann a beatdown
Finding out that you're Revan
Finally beating your friend in a standard 25-kill deathmatch
Shooting bees from your arms
Finding out that Atlas isn't as friendly as you thought
Using a renegade interrupt
Fighting a Dragon and winning on your own
Giving what for to these Nazis
Boarding an airship and beating a turtle to death
Finishing TDWDTG on Expert
By that same token, Green Grass and High Tides on Expert
Unlocking all the stages in any game
Guns that shoot Shurikens and Lightning
Opening a chest and finding a really cool gun
Successfully pulling off The Shady Sands Shuffle
Yelling in triumph as the you defeat the 16th Colossus
Getting the Supercharged Gravity Gun
Beating GLaDOS's testing rooms and escaping certain charring
Watching as your squad does a door breach maneuver
Leading the 501st to victory on Hoth
Winning against a particularly annoying kid in a multiplayer match

These are but a few moments the make gaming worth it. The haters, the corporate bullshit, it's all meaningless when something truly memorable happens. We may complain and we may argue and we may feel betrayed and we wonder if it's all worth it. But in the end, we're all on the same team and we all got in this for the same reason. To conquer, to explore, to triumph.

The raw joy of weaving a world into existence.

When a game is done well, it's story goes nowhere without you. YOU are the centerpiece by which an entire world is written.

This truth empowers the imagination and nurtures creativity.

And yet, that is merely one of innumerable reasons.

I'm going to have to third this.

As for my answer, it's a great way for me to pass my downtime between university semesters. Living in a different country than your friends can be a pain.

Well i'm loving being the best pony in the League of Legends with jungle Hecarim. Fucking so cool...

"Oh you Flashed away? That's cute. MEGA SPEED BUFF ACTIVATE! RAWWWWWWR!"

Really there's a whole boatload of reasons why I love video games... I can be a pwny or go and play through an intelligent plot-driven awesome sauce game. Like Persona 4 for example.

Well, when you've been bullied for twelve straight years, you tend to need a way of venting that is enjoyable as well.
I found video games, and have been a hardcore gamer since I was three years old.
