I have always wondered why sometimes a topic will get a lot of views but not many posts. Like in the past, in topics, I have said in my opening post: Please post what you think. Maybe like 2 or 3 people will but I look at the views and it has over 100. Meaning out of the 100 only 3 posted.

Why is this? Never understood why...

In my own experience of viewing but not posting, it's for a few reasons:

1) The topic wasn't what I thought i was.
2) The OP has said something so ridiculous or stupid that I don't think it deserves a response
3) Someone else has already said exactly what I wanted to say.
4) I don't have anything to say about the topic.

That about covers it.

Makes sense.

Sometimes people, like me, think their opinion is not worth posting or it has already been said.

It's called lurking.
Ah so they are lurkers:

Sometimes the title is interesting but then either I have nothing to say about it or my point has been made by about 40 other people which at that point would be redundant.

What everyone else said.

Does refreshing add a point to the view count? Because I do that sometimes when waiting to see if new posts show up. And then I may or may not post a response afterwards.

Topics are never about what I think they're about. Usually because I've mis-read the title or because I expect the thread to be on a much more trivial topic.

Well, I saw that one of my threads has 200 replies and over 5000 views, but the weird thing is, the views keep going up every day, yet no one else has commented on it since I don't know when. If anything, I'd say they saw what they wanted to say was was already said.

The ratio is usually around 1 reply to 50 views...or in the case of one of my reviews, 50 views to NO comments.

I guess it's people who lurk. And guests browsing after ZP.

Not all topics are intersting and some people don't feel like commenting, even if they read all of it. It's just a matter of preference.

like what everyone else has said, I usually won't post if someones already said what I was going to say. It's why I don't usually post in threads that have around 5 pages of posts or more, as my opinion has generally already been made by someone else by then.

"There aren't many ways to answer, and all possible answers have been said."

That's what I was gonna post before I realized people have already posted it.

Sometimes I'm just checking out the thing to see what the thread is about... sometimes I just simply forget. Sometimes the thread is about 20 pages long and nothing I would have to say would contribute in any way. Sometimes I just like to lurk. Different reasons.

I shall make an example!

"Did you know that Big Macs are made out of small children!?!?" is the topic title, and many people click on it.

The OP is "Well if you did, your a moron, because they're made out of cow and the occasional under-performing worker, just like the box said. What a bunch of dolts you are." Most people would report it, sigh, and move on. Except for one guy who didn't read the OP and pledged his money to Burger King forever after.

That, or there's already a page of replies, and people assume they're post wouldn't get read, and it was a waste of valuable time they could spend making humorous assumptions about the above users avatar. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/index/362-Forum-Games-RP?page=1]
