Ever since I gave up Warcrack, I've been looking for an MMO to fill the hole, and I stumbled on a game that I want to share with all my fellow Escapists, in case it slipped by you all. That game is Vindictus.
General Info:
For the past few years, Nexon, a gaming company most notable for the more child friendly MMOs Maple Story and Mabinogi, has been in works to bring a more mature MMO to the field. Vindictus has already been released in Korea as "Mabinogi Heroes," it's success has spurred Nexon to bring it to American shores. Nexon's MMOs have all been free to play, and Vindictus is no exception. Free to download, and free to play, with micro-transaction based payment system.
Working with help from VALVe, they have modified the Source Engine into an impressive looking MMO, with advanced physics, and environment interaction unlike any other MMO to date. Weapons and armor with crack and receive real-time damage, and will need to be repaired before they break, tombstones can be broken and used as clubs, enemy corpses can be used as weapons, and more.
The world is based on Celtic mythology while also being very dark, gritty, and mature. Set in an age before the original Mabinogi MMO, the focus word is "Brutal."
From what I have seen, the weakest part of the game comes with character creation (in my opinion, of course.) Classes are chosen by which character of 3 you choose initially: Lann is your melee DPS class, specializing in dual wielding swords and quick movement. Fiona is the basic tank class, sword and boarding it and eventually wearing heavy plate armor. The third character, a female mage, has yet to be named.
Vindictus is slated for Winter '10 release, and I'll try to update with any other information as it becomes available.
