You're right, the violin wouldn't top my list of cool musical instruments - that slot is forever devoted to the cello! Violins are wonderful mind you, but the cello, ah the cello... the cello is sublime.

And it makes a pretty kickass instrument for playing heavy metal if you amplify it, as Apocalyptica has proven.
