Okay guys, I've had the Windows 7 RC downloaded for about a week or two now, and I'm thinking of finally installing it, essentially upgrading from Vista. I just have a few quick questions for those people who have already done a similar thing;

1. As I'm moving from Vista to 7, do I need to backup files and reinstall programs? (Obviously I'd do this anyway for safety reasons, but it would be nice to know if re-installation of programs is necessary or not)

2. Is the Vista OS still kept on the hard drive, or does the installation of Windows 7 overwrite it? (eg. Dual Boot.)

Thanks in advance.

I can't really say for sure, I'm not that savvy. I think in their setup tips, Microsoft said to move all important files to a separate hard drive to reinstall, so...

it's at your choice. you can either wipe out vista enterely or install windows 7 to another hard drive/partition so that you can dual boot.

yes you need to reinstall your programs, because either way you dont upgrade vista to windows 7, you start a fresh install in both case.

Yes do backups. the reason is simple. remember that when the RC will be over, if you choose t6o move on the official version, you will have to reformat your windows 7 partition and reinstall windows 7 with a clean install.
