I've said it once and I'll say it again.

The Vita needs the Monster Hunter franchise if it wants to survive in Japan.

PSP has been struggling in the West for awhile now. I don't see it's poorly-selling successor changing the tide much.

Though, to be fair, the PS Vita isn't a bad system. I'd even be interested in it myself, but I cashed in on the 3DS, got a price-cut copy AND over 20 Ambassador games, and I've been swimming in quality content for the past few months.

PS Vita may look better, but when it comes to portable gaming, I just enjoy what's more enjoyable, and Super Mario 3D Land, Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 3D, Mario Kart 3D, and others are keeping me busy... as will the upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations, Kid Icarus Uprising, and Monster Hunter games.

It bloody better, because that's the only thing that will make me buy a Vita.

I still want me a Vita.

Having to buy a memory stick is moderately annoying, though. :I At least, all of the PSP games I have were bought digitally...

Neat. This news, plus Alienware's console-like PC and the existence of onlive suggests that we may be moving back to a PC upswing again for games. And yes, I'm counting smartphones as PCs.

A market in which it is not the case that three corporations control the entirety of what gets published and in which $60+ is not the only allowable price for a big game sounds like a good place to be again.

No, what he's saying is that Nintendo sold about 700,000 Units, while Sony only Sold 500,000 units. It's saying "Nintendo Sold 200,000 More then Sony Did in X Amount of Time".

OT: I knew Vita wasn't going to sell well. Maybe it will sell fine here in the States when it's launched, but I have this feeling it's gonna be a repeat of the PSP: It won't get the support the Nintendo Console will have, it won't sell at a large number, and it will be so screwed that no one will want to support it, and thus it'll become a useless piece of junk... like my Old PSP that no longer works. Nintendo just has the corner on this market, and unlike Sega who matched Nintendo, took steps to fight it, and thus made home Consoles a match instead of a Nintendo Dominated thing, no one was able to compete with the Gameboy (The Game Gear and Lynx were nice to look at but had such short battery life and were so huge, that no one was gonna stick with it when the Gameboy had Fun games, long life and fit in your pocket easily).
Reading comprehension fail. Thanks!

The priority memory cards are a bit of dick move, but I still think that it is a little early to be sounding the Vita's death knell. It all depends on the games; games drive systems sales and I am curious to see what titles they come out with.

Hmmm... I wonder...
Is an expensive system, with overly expensive memory cards and a lack of games (see, NO Monster Hunter) may be the cause, Sony?.

Nah, that would be silly.

I'm not surprised, though this is hardly indicative to how the system is really doing. I'm not interested in it because it's so damn expensive. I'll more than likely get a 3DS when they release the Metal Gear Solid 3 Edition of it. But, back on topic: It's expensive and there aren't that many good games out for it. If I got a cheap Vita, a 32 Gig memory card on sale and a game, it would come in at $440... that is stupid crazy expensive. Remember when you couldn't move PS3's and a single game for $660? And it didn't have a 4 hour battery life. This is a handheld gaming device that is more expensive than the PS3 Uncharted Bundle.

The thing that annoys me is that they would have died a long time ago if not for all the other income. It's the only thing that keeps them in this game. And, they aren't doing anything to move the industry forward.

Oh Sony, didn't you learn anything from Nintendo and their shitty launch line-up? If you'd have held back the Vita until there was a decent game or two for, you might not be in this position. What do I need the exta device and all its features for if there's nothing to do with them?

Probably helps if the Vita had a decent game designed for it also, or somehow allowed us to play our PSP games on it.

And aside from all the other great points made, Sony seems to have missed one key point:

If your target audience are people that like handheld gaming, your target doesn't want to drop $300 on your equipment when they just bought a machine last year (3DS).

I have this feeling that even though many gamers may have more than one of the current generation consoles, I don't see very many with more than one handheld (especially since phones are now in the thick of it).

All of this talk of a weak launch lineup really confuses me. The 3ds really only has about a dozen titles worth playing, even now... and the Vita has double that on day one. If half the launch titles are average or below, that still leaves the Vita with as many good games as the 3DS on day one.

Are y'all considering everything but Uncharted to be worthless? Or is there something else going on here I'm just not getting...?

On other subjects: I'm guessing it may just be that the wider public are satisfied with what they have. Perhaps the 3DS and smartphones already achieved next-gen-portable market saturation, and the Vita is just late to the party?

This is what happens when you release an expensive system with arbitrary expensive storage devices and no decent initial game collection. How stupid do you have to be not to get this? Remember the initial PS3 sales? For Cthulhu's sake, Sony...
Agreed, I was all set to get this, until they announced horrible choice after horrible choice about the systems release, hopefully by the time games like Persona 4 Gold (or whatever they're calling it) come out the prices will be slashed, and if these sale trends continue, they should be slashed repeatedly by then

I will get one, I will get one as soon as home brew is available for it. I am more interested in the hardware than any of the games currently out. There will be cool things possible with specs like that.
After the way sony went after geohot/ps3 modders and their general treatment of the dev community around the xperia x10, what makes you think there will ever be a real homebrew community around the vita? It seems to be far more hassle than it's worth to dev for their platforms.

Also, aren't tablets the new cool portable games console? Sony have been spiralling downwards for some time now, but even so I'm surprised they are so willing to ignore consumer trends (however stupid they may be).

Well, I am surprised. I expected a decline, but not such a huge one. I still predict that sony will do better than the 3ds launch once the Vita is released worldwide. The launch titles have a very strong western appeal, and the hardware makes me drool. I might be wrong, but I?m allowed to be :)
