Well thanks to the volcanic activity in Iceland, Me and my dad have to drive from Finland to England, it's going to take 48 hours to get there. Is anyone else buggered because of the volcano?

I think it's possible, if you drive to France first, and then take the tunnel.

Bubt I suspect they will be taking a ferry from either Norway or Sweden.
They go regularly.

OT:
Hearing a lot of talk about it, but haven't really seen or suffered any effects yet.
Other that a faint odor of sulphur.

I reckon it'll be like the swine flu; Much talk about how horrible it's going to get, and in the end it'll work out without much of a fuzz.

I'm in Australia with no plans to go anywhere in Europe so I am fine. Nice of the volcano to wait until after easter to go off though.

The good 'ol Chunnel [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chunnel]

But a ferry seems much more reasonable for sure.

On a side note I heard they were planning to tunnel from Alaska to Russia. This is awesome. you could drive ANYWHERE! I know as soon as it's done I'm booking off a month for epic road trip.

Well my grandparents were trying to fly out of the country, but for myself I don't have any travel plans.
What I don't understand is that as the ash is in the stratosphere (6-31 miles up) why plane can't simply fly in the troposphere, well below the ash.

Ferries don't seem like they should count as driving. I'll let it pass on the grounds that saying 'driving and taking a ferry for 48 hours' is a little too wordy.

I'm not a traveling man so I don't realy mind.

Sucks for Iceland, though.

My stepdad lived in Iceland for several years and is still in contact with his friends there.
They find the disruption the ash has caused hilarious.

I do happen to know that the school German exchange had to return via a long bus journey and a ferry, though.

Well, I've never been on a plane, and probably won't for about another year, so this whole "volcano ash" thing hasn't affected me in the slightest.

There is a crossing from sweden to denmark, 2 bridges and a tunnel, or the other way around, then its either ferry from denmark to england, or keep on to france and catch the ferry or the eurotunnel train to england, but thats a hell of a trip.

i bet rescue workers in Iceland would just lava vacation right about now!
Why, I could almost hear the ba-DUM tish!! right there!

Take a ferry if you can and enjoy a restful journey rather pay over the odds to go through the chunnel (which is probably booked solid anyway).

I read this morning that flights are being further suspended until Sunday. I really hope I don't have to see any more whiney people on the news over the matter. Is it a nuisance? Yes. But it is a no fault situation. If everyone was stranded because of a baggage handlers strike then go ahead but really, jet engines cannot fly into that cloud without crashing in a horrifying fireball.

Of course, if you wanted a bit of a chuckle at an ignorant arse you can always look at this http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-balan/2010/04/15/rick-sanchez-too-cold-iceland-have-volcano-there and read about how it is "too cold" in Iceland for there to be volcanoes....

As widely reported in the media this week, James May was spotted in Iceland days before the volcano eruption that paralysed British air space.

Today, experts worldwide have rushed to blame TopGear for the holiday-ruining cloud of ash and doom sweeping over the UK.

According to local media, the shaggy-haired television presenter was witnessed driving a modified Hilux to the rim of the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano last week.

Though initially assumed that he was simply filming a feature for the the popular motoring television show, it has since been speculated that May?s purpose was far more devious.

?It has been scientifically proven that TopGear is responsible for almost every evil in the modern world, so the eruption of a furious tectonic force barely a week after Richard Clarkson?s ?visit? can hardly be viewed as mere coincidence,? says media commentator Annalisa Kneejerk.

?We have it on good authority that Jeremy Hammond drove one of his favourite Ferrari gas-guzzlers at 100mph, straight into the main magma chamber, which could quite easily have caused this geological catastrophe. Thankfully I?ve never watched the show.?
Source is the Top Gear Blog or something like that...but yeah, this volcanic disaster is Top Gear's doing *nods*

I'm from Australia. So no. But that sucks man.
Same.

It'd suck big time but you'd just have to think of it as being an adventure and figure that it's probably happened for a reason and you're where God wants you to be [if you are inclined to think that way :)]

Yeah, and people hate that the most. They're always wanting to blame someone and it's so unsatisfying when you have nothing but Earth or God or the tectonic plates or nature to blame...
