Hi escapists,

I've recently been considering getting a VPN, and was wondering about your opinion in regard to the.

Do you use one? If you do, is it worth it? Do you use a free one or pay for one? Feel free to post your opinions in general.

For casual VPNs I occasionally use the free program Hamachi [https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi2/]. Its quick and easy to use and I can break the connections or add more machines in easily. It also spoofs a LAN between the machines so I can add friends into it and play games over lan with them.

Cons: The network security is only as good as the password you set

Pretty much entirely this.

A few friends and I use Hamachi to play Minecraft together on locally hosted servers.

Well...What are you going to use it for?
Oh, just general web activity. Bypass area constrictions, if a secure VPN it means more security when internet banking and other sensitive on-line stuff. Privacy also.

i have used them before to allow clients at my old work to upload files to our server. they seem pretty simple to set up but i cant think of any real reason to use one. but thats just me.

I use a hardware LAN. Its handy being able to throw files back and forth between computers. I don't use it much for LAN Gaming anymore mind you. But it really depends on what you need it for.
