VPU Error causing games to cut out. Help!

Hello all, posting less frequently nowerdays, tend to just post when something breaks. Annnd, somethings broken!

Recenly picked up Spec ops: The Line. I know that it's pretty graphically heavy (And a little ambitions to try and run it on full whack on my old Ati4900HD). Now, randomly in gameplay everything freezes, cuts out and a little box from AMD's catalyst center telling me that my VPU has stopped responding. Fair enough i thought, tried lowering the settings and resolution down one. Still crashed. And down another, and another untill i'm playing it on lowest, and this is still happening despite the fact the games only using 30% of my screen and the graphics look like i'm running it on a nintendo Ds


But it seems to be "Spreading". I gave up after a while, and went to go on Star trek online, which i have clocked over 500 hours on (Playing on maxed graphics) and now that crashes, AND regardless of what i change the graphics too.

I Know my cards a coupla years old, but i've been able to play Crysis and Far cry 2 on full everything in the past, why has it stopped working all of a sudden?

I tried updating & Deleting drivers, to no avail.

That sounds eerily like a hardware issue with your graphics card. Could be a heat problem. Try cleaning out the fans and the interior of your desktop. If that doesn't do the trick, try another graphics card if you have one or test your card in another computer. If the evidence is inconclusive or you can't do that, try and reinstall the OS and see if the problem persists. If it does, try getting the card replaced using your warranty. Before that, however, checking other components could also be needed as a hardware fault somewhere else could also be possible.

Looks like the heat was the problem, decoupling the side panels did the trick.

Have not had anymore issues so far, after a day of solid playing on max settings!
