One of the schools in my district seems to close if someone even so much as stubs their toe. My school however only closes if the roads are deemed bad enough by our Superintendent who I swear to god is trying to kill us, almost slid into a ditch at least five times on the way to school today. I live in southern Ohio by the way and it snow way more than you would expect here.

Northeast Tennessee for me, a mile from the Virginia state line. Not only do the schools around here close for an inch of snow, but the ENTIRE TOWN i live in closes down, me i like driving in the snow, but i am a bit insane.

MI but the district around here sucks. They hardly ever call off school and when they do it's on the first snowfall so when you really need one they are all used up and you have to go anyways.

Texas and its citizens kinda like to panic when we see white stuff falling from the sky that isn't sand. Less than half an inch, our great thirsty soil just gobbles it up. Half an inch to an inch, where it actually starts sticking to the ground, and schools close, people drive just as crazy as normal while being slightly more twitchy, and kids are out making snow penises. Anything more than a couple inches, and it's like the whole damn place pretty much goes into lockdown. It's absurd, but amusing.

It did snow on Easter one year, that was pretty cool.

Generaly the schools around here only close if the salt trucks can't get out to clear the roads, or didn't presalt a bad snowfall.

(I live in a county with only 2,000 people in it in southern indiana.)

What county is that? I'm in southern Indiana at the moment, Evansville, USI Campus.

Where I lived a bit north of south, near Bedford, we had school closings at least once or twice a year because of snow, and many, many delays.

I live in Union, the schools around here get delays all the time, but they rarely ever cancel.

I live in Alberta (Canada) so school doesn't get a snow day called unless it is -40 or -50 with wind chill. It sucks waiting for buses in that cold.

On a side note we got a really terrible blizzard two days ago and 50 crashes in 3km radius. You couldn't even see 5 feet in front of you. And still no snow day called.

Glasow, Scotland here. We've had heavy snow for the past couple weeks with it finally stopping just a few days ago. It's meant to start again tomorrow though.

Generally, we don't have snow that settles and if we do then it's rare for schools to close unless it's really bad. Even rarer for them to close in advance and not just send pupils home early. But I guess that's what two to three feet of snow does to the school board.

i live in england and its quite funny since the media has a field day proclaiming it to be the worse snow since X and then all public transport just shuts down. i heard in germany the attitude is just generally screw it and just does what every other european country does and simply ploughs through it and keeps everything going smoothly

Live in Belgrade, Serbia, snow's never too bad around here, though I don't think it's much less than in some countries that still freak out over it (I'm looking at you, you silly British peoples!). Pretty much nothing ever gets closed down, you can never really use an excuse of "too snowy to go to school/work/etc." or anything like that.

Im near Toronto Canada, last year, we didnt have a single snow day. Which sucks. This year, in the past 2 weeks, we've missed a total of 5 days of school.

Today was a snow day actually.

Really? In Waterloo neither high school or elementary schools have been closed to my knowledge.
The university never closes.

Hello dear Escapist, a little background information 1st. Live in the southern united states, just north enough to get snow/sleet, but just south enough for the shcool board to *Pun not intended* freeze up when it does finally hit. Today, December 17, we had less than an inch of solid snowfall. The school system shut down all schools in about 10 counties.

So here is the question, my friends, how do those in positions of authority near you react to snow? Do you live in an area where you never recieve it and dont have to worry about it? Do you live where snow is a constant, something that simply becomes part of the norm? Do you live where any amount of snow causes almost complete sociotal breakdown? Share with us your tales of intrest!

EDIT: Huh, didn't know there were so many N.C. member around here.

I live in England where the authorities curl up into a ball and cry whenever snow arrives.

heh yeah i'm in TN, we had our first snow of the year Monday and the first day of finals week was canceled because of it...all half inch of it, so...yeah lol

oh and i'm from western NY originally so i find it absolutely hilarious

I think we go to the same school, savage. I've actually seen this place shut down for less, including one time we closed in anticipation of snow that never arrived. Fun times.

I'm also from Maryland, and drivers from both states proceed to freak the hell out when the snow starts to fall.
