So, I mentioned in passing on an earlier thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.83354#1183167] that GAME (in the UK) has a 10% student discount that they never mention, and apparently I wasn't the [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.83354#1183180] only one [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.83354#1183241] that didn't know about it. (Note: You do need a GAME reward card for the discount, but that pays for itself after the first new-ish game you buy)

So, I have two questions: Are there any other places that do discounts that not everybody knows about but are awesome and you wish to share, and is it fair of them to all-but-hide their discount?

Some branches of Gamestation do, though I suspect that might depend on who you talk to. My local one at uni used to... and now suddenly doesn't. But apparently if I get on a train for ten minutes to the next nearest branch, they still do it. I haven't bothered checking to see how true that is 'cos the price of the train ticket would negate any saving from the discount.

HMV obviously do with a student card, though apparently not in my local store. They're bloody weird.

Ironically, I knew about the discount in GAME but the nearest store to me is bloody useless and the next best option is Oxford St.

Oh aye, Zavvi too, at least they used to. I haven't bought anything in there since they went into administration so I wouldn't know if they're still honouring student cards.

While we're on the subject, we all know about Topman/Topshop, Burton/whatever their female counterpart is and a shitload of other clothes shops do a student discount. Peacocks too, if you're really skint. But if you're at the stage of wanting a discount from Peacocks, you might as well just go to Primark. Oh yeah, if you're wanting shoes, Office used to do 15% off for students. That wasn't long ago, October sorta time, so that might still be valid.

Wow, I wish I'd known about this sooner I've spent a silly amount of money in GAME recently. And the fact that I didn't know about it is a testament to how much they advertise it.

Awesome, i hate asking for discounts though lol. Admittedly its good when you get it, but if they say no i end up standing there like a darned fool. Although i am perhaps slightly self-conscious in that sort of situation.

I just like how my local Zavvi is still selling games at a higher price than Game and Gamestation, thats with the 20% off. No wonder they went bust.

Yeah, I was looking over that thread earlier and I'm slightly annoyed now that I didn't know about that.

I've always known you can use your student cards to get like free ice-cream at McDonalds or medium chips, that's always nice.

A list needs to be racked up here with all the discounts students can get in the shops in the UK.

Yeah, I found out about this a few weeks ago and I wish I'd found out sooner considering the cash I've spent there...

Edit: By the way, Somerfield (A UK grocery store) does, or at least did when I last went there, a 5% discount on everything but booze. 5% isn't that much, but considering how much you spend on food in a year, it really adds up.

Talking of games discounts I had a look in Currys recently and they have a clearance on all their old games to bring in the new ones, this is only while stocks last.

I picked up a sealed and tinned copy of Bioshock for £9.

Zavvi do 10% off for students, so if you can find a branch that is still open there are some good deals to be had.

Even with a student discount Amazon and Play will be cheaper.
Maybe not, if you've got a GAME card. The points seem to build up a lot quicker than I realised. I just got Oblivion GOTY Edition for £2.99 after student discount and points from my card.

(We'll mention nothing of the fact that I then had to spend £80 on a new graphics card to run the bloody thing.)

Eh I'm the same. I even hate using vouchers. I always have the correct amount of money for the full item just in case, and usually a bit more just in case.

Slightly OT: I wanted to be funny and say "the pirate bay does some awesome discounts"

I find places let me get away with paying cash for things, and they generally give me a small-ish discount (I'm not talking 10% off or anything that much, but if I say "look, I've got $80 in cash, can we do a deal for that $85 game" they're usually ok with it). Hate asking though, but cash is better than a card.
