I remember having fun at Chuck E Cheese when I was 10 but after going back when I was 21 for my niece's birthday party and everything just seemed to suck. The pizza tasted like cardboard with pizza toppings on it. The games all have graphics that would be considered bad by PS1 standards, controls ranged from passable to downright unresponsive, and the difficulty of some of the games made me wonder how the hell anyone was supposed to win this crap especially when this shit was supposed to entertain kids. I left wondering why the hell I used to enjoy going to that suck factory.

Also where was the guy in the costume? I swear that guy is rarely in the playroom. Are they cutting his hours or something?

Yeah, this has been said, but I don't remember dragonball z being sooo boring. I saw some re-runs at a friend's house as a look at what we used to watched as little kids. About 20 minutes in and we were both saying "Well, they planning on fighting or just talking smack until someone cancel's the series?" Jeez, I don't remember the 50 minute smack talk with no profanity in front of every 10 second skirmish.

The point I'm just now getting to is that those false truths are shared by everyone (as a phenomenon, of course); naturally, I'm asking as to those of the collective escapist community; I'll start:

For some reason, I remember 'Power Rangers' actually being entertaining.
I think your supporting argument here is weak in regards to your proposed topic. While you may not like them now, it is a highly reasonable belief that your tastes in entertainment will change over a period of time (in this case about 13 years since the listed end of the series.)

Yeah there are so many things from my Childhood that i see now and think what crap, and Dragon Ball Z probably tops the list.

I don't remember the Ultimate Warrior being THAT crazy. I don't remember him being crazy all the time, either.
:O
I...just...what the hell?
Yeah, imagine my shock when I found out he's REALLY LIKE THAT. Yeah, all that stuff he just said, he believes in it!

I remember Super Mario on the Gameboy being really hard. Last time I played it (about a year ago) I beat it in 40 minutes.

I remember seeing a crocodile in my pool and thinking that was freaking awesome. Now I just wonder "HOW THE HELL DID THAT GET THERE?!"

This drum has been beaten to death but I saw some Dragon Ball Z sorta recently and in my head all I can think is Really? My cousins used to be obsessive compulsive fans of THIS? My friend is a current completist fan of THIS? Really? Damn I had low standards when I was little!.

Hey, I still like DBZ, same as always. :p

But yeah, Power Rangers definitely isn't as entertaining as I remember it was in the short time it was on TV in this country. Except for this year's season, which happens to be rather decent.

Also, I remember a show called Mummies Alive. I recently looked it up and man, it is NOT as awesome as I used to think it was.

I never remembered cringe'ing watching pokemon.

Now i cant watch it WITHOUT cringe'ing.
I know what you mean, I have just recently watched the enitre first season and had a lot of WTF moments.
The voice acting was just scary : S
What surprised me was the cheesey-ness of the title of the episodes. Back then I thought they were funny.

Other thing, I remembered the morphing scenes in the Animorphs series being.....cooler.

Now that I go back and watch, Peter Pan--the Disney movie cartoon--was extremely sexist. But I never noticed when I was a kid.

However, no matter how brain-cell-despairingly stupid Sailor Moon and DBZ were and still are, they still make me laugh with a sort of weird nostalgia. And every time I get into the mood for something totally mindless, I watch one of them. And enjoy it.

When I was a kid, I loved the show Pee Wee's Playhouse...I saw it again a year or so ago on Adult Swim, and now I think that I had terrible parents for allowing me to watch it. :p

I remember watching quite a number of TV series that I can't imagine the few TV stations we had back then actually broadcasting. I've been trying to find the DVDs lately, and it's almost impossible to even find a mention of the bloody series, let alone find any evidence they were actually ever dubbed (or broadcast in the netherlands for that matter).

Examples:
Ring Raiders, apparently never had more than the pilot episodes, yet I remember watching that series quite fondly. Those few clips I can find now are quite hammy, but the entire series appears to have never existed now.

Thundersub: an Anime series (japanese title translates as Blue Noah and seems to borrow bits of Battleship Yamato), finding DVDs of the series is damn well impossible, I haven't even been able to find torrents of the undubbed japanese version, let alone the english series. It's as if the whole series just disappeared, and it wasn't even that bad from what I can remember, just over the top.

(I mean, really, a gigantic nuclear submarine that surfaces and transforms into a massive heavily armed carrier, complete with fighter drones and tons of lasers, what's not to love)

EDIT: Seems someone is re-releasing the entire Thundersub series dubbed on DVD, just pre-ordered a set. Lets hope this isn't a scam, site doesn't look that professional.
Will know when september ends. (ships on 30th of September)
