The Legendary ending of Halo 3, just because it leaves the ending open, I mean, what is that planet they were headed towards?
in response to the halo 3 legendary ending:

this is coming from the perspective of someone who has read too many of the halo books, but my random wild guess is that the planet is onyx. the frigate split right next to the ark, so it would be totally possible to have floated to onyx. but that is just a wild guess.

as for endings:

both gears of war and 2. i was like, "wait, so... they aren't dead? WTF?"

Dead space was unanswered.

the crysis ending was also a WTF? ending.

also, the FEAR 2 ending was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too confusing

wait, so, while you thought you were fighting keegan, alma was actually raping you? and even though she is dead, the baby is real? WTF?

finally, i'm just throwin this out there, the cloverfield ending.

so, they inacted the hammerdown protocol, but maybe the monster isn't dead? and they never fully explained what the hell the monster was anyway.

The newest Prince of Persia game gave me a total mindfuck. I mean honestly, what the hell was the point of the game then!

I still loved it, but really. What. The. Hell.

I have read all of the Halo books myself (at least all the ones I know of) and it wasn't Onyx. If you remember, all of Onyx's land fell away, or dissolved, or what have you, exposing the interconnecting and cris-crossing beams that are the inside of it.

I think...

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. Not so much the ending as the story after about half way through the third book. It just falls apart and I was like "Really? That's it? All that build up, for THAT?". After 2 excellent books and more than its fair share of hype it was just massively disappointing.
That's because the entire point of that series was to take a stab a Christianity. It was an atheist series. I agree, the first two books were excellent, but by the time the third rolled around he was so preoccupied with his atheist agenda that he forgot to make the ending any fucking decent. I don't care if you don't agree with something, but don't make it so blatantly obvious that it ruins your story.

1984, what kinda ending was that?! There should've been a shoot-out and car chase.
I hope you're being ridiculous on purpose. The ending was perfect. How else could it have ended?

1984....its like WTF!! i kinda just sat there with my mouth hanging open when i read those 4 final words of the book...
Also the ending to kotor 2
{the ship just kinda flies away and your left sitting there like...its over?}
Again. If you didn't get the ending, you missed the entire point of the book.

Metal Gear Solid: 2
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK WITHOUT 3 DOLLARS AND A PLAYSTATION:

I played that game, and at the end I was like "What the fuck? Did that just happen? Was that rose girl real? How far was I playing the game before it became a simulation? Was it always a simulation? And why were the patriots all dead?!

Needless to say, I literally was bothered for DAYS over whether or not I was real. Usually I know the difference between reality and fiction when I'm playing a videogame, but I was completely dumbfounded when I realized that was exactly what the game WANTED me to do at the end of it. I was like "The simulation (game) was of a simulation... and it had never told me?! What kind of mindfuckery is this!?"

Maybe you guys weren't so confused, but to this day I question if my life is happening or not.

Ok, so I didn't check if anyone else put this but "The Departed" had an... unorthodox ending.

Call of Duty 4 immediately comes to mind.

Assassin's Creed is definitely one of those.

I can't remember all the other media that I've seen like that. (I guess every season of House is like that for me.) But, I am totally familiar with the "What? That's it?" feeling.

The raped english dub of Big-O... talk about screwing the pooch.

I would say Betterman, or Boogiepop Phantom.. but the entire series of both were complete "What...? Did I just get laid? What the hell happened!?"

But the biggest "WTF? Is that the ending?" moment for me was Transformers 2.
Heres my recount of the experience.
Boring humans.
2 second long blurry shakey cam fight sequence.
Boring humans
Boring robots.
Complete rape of the canon you set last movie.
Boring humans.
Cool fight sequence.
Racist robots.
Boring humans.
Boring humans.
2 second long fight sequence.
Cheap anatomy robot jokes.
More cheap jokes.
Christians are now offended by this movie.
2 second long fight.
End.... wait... the end? What the fuck!? I sat waiting for 2 hours ofr a fucking 2 second long climax!?

When Dumbledore dies.
I already read the books but that is just inconsiderate to someone who has not read the books and plans to.

OT: I can't really think of anything right now, though I might later.
Is it just me, or is it really hard to find anyone who DOESN'T know he died? I mean, when the book came out you couldn't go two feet without hearing the "news."

Reminds me of family guy.
So all that happened was just a simulation?
Yeah? And?
Won't that piss any body off that sat there through this whole simulation watching it just to learn all of it was fake and meant nothing?
Well at least we didn't do it like the sapranos where we ended everything mid- *Credits*

Call of Duty 4.

Man, this chase is pretty fun.
Ooooh shit! Holy shit, this bridge is gunna fall!
Oh, another gun fight? Ok, sounds good.
Wait, what just happened? Did we get hit by a bomb or -- ooooh shit, that guy is executing our dudes!
*head turn*
Oh, a pistol? For me? Gah-hyuck, why, thank you very much.
*totally awesome slo-mo shot*
....What? That's the ending?! What is this shit?
A fun epilogue.
hahaha I didn't think it was bad at all, rather satisfying
tho yea kinda predictable cuz I was like going "oh man I better be able to shoot this guy..." out loud to my friend who was watching me play and then "oh...thanks price" bam bam bam

yeah 1984...
well I feel like Equilibrium is the much better alternative to some of the supposed-utopia dystopian future theme
(plus the cleric are badass, but don't steal the spotlight to turn the film into a mindless action flick)
