Wait what the heck?! (skyrim)

i just had a weird experience in skyrim,
I was running around the outside of whiterun mining iron ore
when I saw some guards fighting some bandits so I slew the bandits and went back to gathering ore when next thing I know I get "attacked" by a elk i use quotes because the elk wasn't really doing damage just annoyingly running into me it also had weird runes on it like a Resurrected body but they were green instead of light blue

WTF caused it to attack?
