Apparently, she actually believes all of this, for real.

Bold Emphasis mine. After describing him, how could you NOT think he smoked a little dope now and then?
Haha, That's what I was thinking!

My dad is a very intelligent, logical, and educated guy, three different degrees and a doctorate, and senior partner at the large law firm he founded. On the day I graduated with two degrees in biology, he said something to the effect, "I just hope my money didn't pay for any of that evolution nonsense!"
My jaw dropped.

I knew this was bound to happen when I saw this thread, okay while I understand why your jaw dropped, I wouldn't say that nesscarly goes in this thread. (I am going to try to not make a big deal out of it.)

Why? becuase someone not believe evolution isn't on the same level as someone believing such things as like

Scientology, Truthism, or the 2012 threory.

but what I honestly want to say, while it technicaly would fit in this topic, how you stated some people (slightly like me) could take offense to that.

I met someone who I thought was pretty cool, but when he found out one of my friends was a lesbian he was disgusted and said he didn't want to hang around with me when she was around. I told him if that's how it was then he shouldn't hang around with me full-stop. Didn't hear from him ever again.
You're better off, then. :D

I've dealt with a lot of people I didn't know were homophobic. And like at least one other person, people are surprised I like RPGs. Same with Pro Wrestling (And no, I'm not ashamed of that).

I'm usually the one that drops a shocker, it seems. I tend to blend in with the background and people assume I'm like-minded. What ever happened to being friends or just being friendly?

A lot of former close friends are pretty big homophobes, while quite a few people I know are complete morons who try to act smart. Leads to a lot of this.

And don't say it was the aviation fuel, it does not burn NEARLY as hot enough.

Ps. Don't think I'm denying that it was a fucking tragedy.

people are suprised when I say I don't do pot (or wahtever drug makes you high)

No, Im just not all there most of the time.

also, there was this one chick who was so damn paranoid being near her makes want to punch the stupid out of her. Now, Im not THAT tall, but in middle school I was a lot taller than most people, while At the same time being younger than people in the grade behind me (who, of course, were also shorter.) so, Ms. paranoid made a comment about me using steroids. I looked at her and said "What the FUCK!?" and ranted her out for my intolerance for morons had gotten the better of me. she became even more paranoid. whatcha gonna do?

then My personal favorite: people genuinely think im a mute.

when I finally decide to actually say something with my VOICE, peoples reactions are both varied and hilarious.

also, I have a friend who is gay. I thought he was joking, do to the hilarious and loud "X, I LOVE YOU!". Especially since his name is romeo

It was... Awkward afterwords. it seems it WAS a joke, but the fact his name is romeo isn't whats supposed to funny, apparently.

It was a bit surpising.

I know a guy like this. When we were in years 7 to 9, we would only talk when teh teacher asked him something. But that wasn't often. However, he talks more now. (he's still taller than me though).

I think an Artistic Bass Player fits the pot smoking demographic perfectly but oh well.

OT- an ex girlfriend of mine thought that you would be killed if someone damaged your Achilles tendon after hearing the Iliad....it took me 2 hours to explain the concept to her, such a silly girl

I always thought this friend of mine (who is 16 and I am 21) Was a hardcore lesbian, so I never thought much of it when she would always hang all over me, because I saw her do it with other male friends, and I always have weird friends with odd social boundaries.

Imagine my surprise when she tells me she's bi, and asks if I would be ok with fucking a 16 yr old?

you beat me to it... WAIT, the page you linked to is missing!!!!!

the thing is, there wasn't any puddles of previously melted steel/iron, what made them collapse was the heat did not melt the metal but made it expand/ become deformed, enough to make the building collapse. there is small amounts of partially melted steel(i think), but it never completely melted.

He's not your friend anymore over it?

I know a guywho thinks he's the most liberal person ever. He, however, does not tolerate people's views when they are less liberal than his.

There was a really conservative guy in my history class, back at school. I think it may have been a charade, seeing as he came out with things like 'I'm naming my children Margaret and Ronald' and 'I'd rather my children smoked than didn't go to church'.
Anyway, he drank like a fish and routinely passed out on nights out. And when I last met him in a club, he scabbed a cigarette from me.
Funny, coming from such a straight-laced and allegedly clean-living guy.

Guy in my age group at school who was perfect academically, especially in the sciences.

He took Chemistry, Physics, and Biology all at the same time and was never wrong, save for one technicality that he argued over for days. Ace'd his tests, presentations were flawless, exams were perfect. It seemed he really loved science.

Turns out he's a creationist.

Yeah....weird....

I have a friend who is extremely homophobic and doesn't like black people very much but no matter what i say, he won't change. He's very adamant about it, it annoys me.

Ah, yes, I have one of those.
A close friend of mine is, seemingly, a cool guy. Certainly, whe I met him back in high school (Uh, Junior high, I think, is the American equivalent? Not sure) he never really bothered me with anything.
But for the past year, he has been really pissing me off. He frequently expresses contempt for Christians, in both private and public environments. He is racist (I swear, if he starts a conversation with "Well, Hitler was bad, I guess, *but*" one more time...), openly homophobic (Despite knowing that, as a man who is willing to admit homosexual attractions, I might have reason to take offence to this), and, finally, just generally elitist.
I find myself asking, what, exactly, the fuck happened? I'll blame videogames. It works for the rest of the world.

Could be a bit off-topic, but this one old friend of mine(who was an atheist) quited talking to me when he heard that I'm Christian.

That was few years ago and he still hasn't talked to me at all.

Since almost all of my friends went to parochial schools I just take it for granted that we're all Athiests now.

So it always catches me off guard when one of my friends mentions going to church or saying his prayers.
I don't think Ill of him for it, it's just out of the ordinary for my social circle.

The majority of my mates love things like gaming, anime and movies.

Imagine my surprise when I bring up D&D to a chorus of "Oh that's only for nerds!".
Hahaha... Though that's kind of understandable to me(don't ask me to explain it, as I can't really articulate what I mean on that very well).
I feel the exact same on that. I'm awful at explaining why...

My example: My ex GF, whom I still talk to, rather be called a "c*nt" than a "*****." It's my understanding and belief that "c*nt" is the more severe word. Also, in the same idea, she prefers to be called "retarded" over "stupid." Again...isn't "retarded" worse? Always been my thinking...
