Yeah, so as you can probably guess from the title, the NPC Walter has completely disappeared from my game. I started this to ask if anyone else has had the same experience or a similar one with another NPC

Ah, yes Walter. There is common pathing bug with him that causes him to walk off of the catwalks, and dies. So, look for a corpse, or forget about him.

Isn't walter the water purification guy from megaton?
Well, my Lucas Simms vanished. Welcome to Bethesda games, and the escapist.

Thanks, yeah he is the water purification guy in Megaton. What really annoyed me is that I had stockpiled a load of scrapmetal to give him before he vanished

YOu have the pc version? Because if so look up the console commands on the fallout wiki. You can ressurect any character in the game through the console command.

Unfortunately, no. I have it on the PS3, which is probably the worst platform for this game because I have to wait soo long for the DLC

That also happened to me. I spend ages looking for him, only to find his corpse wedged between a slope and a building.
I mourned for him. Then robbed him of everything he had.

"Oh Walter, we hardly knew ye..."

He probably fell off a scaffolding to his death. If you are playing on a PC just ressurrect him. If you play console I'm afraid you are SOL.

Aw damn...Yeah your pretty much screwed then if he really died. A lot of characters tend to die like that. Companions as well. That sucks man.

Yeah, Walter disappeared on my game too. Fortunately, I have it for the 360, and he reappeared with a patch that came out at the same times as the Broken Steel DLC.

You can always give that scrap to Winthrop, or Casdin. (You could use it in the Pitt, but PS3 doesn't have the DLC yet.)

You could always give the scrap to the guy in underworld?
Several other places take it too.

I must admit, for all that's good about that game, it sure is filled with bugs.
Today I spent 2 hours trying to fix a glitch that caused my game to crash whenever I went towards Rivet City.

Yes, the game is filled with bugs. Good thing it's worth the effort to fix.

Well, there is another NPC who buys scrap metal, just can't recall who.
You could be referring to Winfrey(Underworld, but I probably got his name wrong) or Protector Casdin(Fort Independence). Both of them will exchange scrap metal for various supplies. I never found getting metal for Winfrey to be worth it. Casdin offers some better rewards for less metal, but still not that great (though I got a mod to improve the outcast rewards). Walter is probably the best fro scrap metal, since he pays pure caps and is easily accessible early on.
