As you are no doubt aware there is a somewhat limited following who have proclaimed that they will boycott L4D2 based purely on the fact that they felt Valve failed to deliver on their promise for L4D1.
However if you want a real reason not to buy L4D2 then perhaps the latest DLC for L4D1 'Crash Course' is a good example of why you should re think your purchase of L4D2.
I am a fairly recent buyer of L4D, I like many have not yet gotten the chance to grow bored of the four missions that were provided in the copy I bought so I had little to no interest in the new DLC. What does interest me is just how utterly shite the servers for this game are and how utterly unprepared Valve were for this new DLC.
Since the two hours it took just to get the download the game has been for lack of a better word, totally unplayable. I have just spent the best part of an hour in the game trying to find even a half decent vs game. Every single server was a total lag fest with pings of no less than 250, prior to the update you could join a game in seconds and almost be certain of a ping of less than 50.
Of course that's assuming you can actually get in to a game, when I wasn't looking at laggy game dropping players left right and centre I was either looking at the time out server screen or a load screen that would refuse to do anything other than load endlessly.
To be honest the whole farce would be a laugh if the very premise of the game wasn't on multiplayer co-op. So what exactly can you make of a game that is meant to be played online with other players yet systematically fails when it comes to the online part due to a combination of a mediocre update and piss poor servers?
So given that this kind of shitty server support is not an uncommon occurrence for Valve games and given that L4D2 will strongly require decent server support to allow for any sort of half decent game, well I am pretty sure that on the back of this failure of a DLC I certainly won;t be buying L4D2 now.
