Hello, you may know me a bit from various RP's and I think it is time to whip out an RP that I have been working on for about five months now. My co-gm has phased off the planet so I will need someone to co-gm with me. With that in mind, an explanation.

Nestled within the land of Isbar is the ancient and powerful city-state of Ophilia. Through their unrivaled mastery of both magic and technology the Ophilians became the most prosperous and advanced city in the civilized world. They built Ophilia into a collosal, domed city of gleaming metal and glowing arcan runes. Magic and technology littered the streets. A vast array of silver automatons, powered by magical crystals assisted the Ophilians in everyday life and defended their high, marble walls. The other city-states were jealous of the Ophilian's power and longed to learn their secrets for themselves, but the Ophilian's guarded them like a mother bear does her cubs. Foreigners were rarely allowed into Ophilia and when they were they were escorted everywhere. Still, the Ophilian's maintained good relations with the other cities, trading with them and even entertaining diplomats on rare occasions.

However, 8 years ago the Ophilians cut off all relations with the outside world. They closed their representatives and refused to answer any traders or foreign representatives. At first, the kings of the other city-states grew anxious, fearing the Ophilians were gathering themselves for a massive attack on the rest of Isbar. But the years went on and no attack came and everyone assumed that the Ophilians finally grew bored with the rest of the world and had abandoned it. Isbar moved on, and in the intervening years two city-states began to compete to fill the void; Arcoove and Bodner.
The Arcoovians pushed their natural affinity with magic to the limit, trying to match the arcan might of the Ophilians. Mysticism was woven into their everyday life and their armies marched with enchanted swords and arrows. The Bodneri on the other hand, prided themselves on their scientific insight and technological engineering, aspiring to the complex machinery of Ophilia. They used technology to ease their burdens and their forces utilized massive seige engines and crude guns. While they lacked their own city-state, the Elseyad, nomadic were-elves and traders, were wealthy and powerful in their own right. They travel from city to city, trading rare and exotic goods from all across Isbar. Despite their wealth, the Elseyad lack political unity and are often looked down on by the normal humans of Isbar and are rarely allowed in their cities.

A few months ago, an Elseyad trading caravan made its camp outside the great city of Ophilia. While the elders set up camp several of the younger were-elves explored the walls of the city, hoping to catch a glimpse inside. One of them, his name unknown, happened upon a secret passage into the city. He rushed backed to camp and showed several elders the way. The Elseyad were weary of breaking into the Ophilian city, but their curiousity and prospect for renewed trade with the Ophilians drove them on. Three Elseyad were chosen by their elders to investigate the tunnel and see if they could contact any of its citizens. The group soon discovered there were none. Even though it was the middle of the day the streets were empty and dead silent. The Elseyad rushed from building to building marvelling at the ornate, towering structures, hoping to find an Ophilian. After an hour of searching they gave up and decided to report back to the elders. As they made their way back to the tunnel they began to inspect the dead city further spying odd trinkets and mechanical wonders that they knew would bring their caravan much gold. As they snagged their loot they unknowingly activated a defensive automaton which was guarding the treasures of a paticular home. The mighty mechanical ran through one of the elves with its sword and chased the remaining two through the city back to the tunnel they came from. As it chased them it loosed blasts of magical enegery. One blast smashed into the tunnel as the first elf ran in, collapsing it behind him and leaving his companion to a quick but painful death. The final Elseyad divulged all that had happened in Ophilia and revealed the score of treasure he had uncovered. The caravan mourned the loss of the two youths but were excited by the opprotunity represented by Ophilia. If they could find another way into the city and gain control of the Ophilian machinary then the Elseyad would finally have a city of their own and more wealth than ever before. The caravan dispatched its fastest elves to spread news among the other Elseyad caravans. News as momentous as this however, has a habit of breeding loose lips and the news was not contained to only the elves. Soon the Arcoovians and Bodneri learned of the dissapearence of the Ophilians and desired to capture the city for themselves. Now, The forces of Arcoove, Bodner and the Elseyad lay assembled before Ophilia. Each side hopes to fight off the others long enough to find a way into the city and use its defenses to drive the others away.

The Elseyad are a roaming group of nomadic elves. Their skin color tends to vary by the animal they are born to be in tune with. Around the age of Nine, they first discover their animal and by age Thirteen; can transform in to a beast. They use this for getting around and for times of battle. The Elseyad are famous for the tails that they all have, though the length and thickness vary between them and their animals. All Elseyad have access to three forms, Normal, Half beast, and Full beast. The Half beast form is by far the most powerful, but also the most difficult to maintain. It takes years of meditation and training to be able to contain the beast within at a half state for more than a few seconds. The main transformations of Elseyad are wolf, bear, panther, rhino and elephant, however; the Elseyad have been known to take other forms like monkies or apes and in rarer cases, even kangaroos and whales! As a nomadic group, they have been in almost every city and are famous for their cheap to expensive wears and trinkets. Many times, they have been hired by random kingdoms to find some odd weapon or specific trinket lost in a war. Recently however; the nomad lifestyle has taken it's toll, disease breakouts and a lack of any real form of technology has had the other kingdoms scrambling to take over the trade routes and eliminate the need for the Elseyad.

The Kingdom of Arcoove has always been one of magic. Recently taking the forefront in the arcane arts, they started off as novices constantly studying and copying the far more advanced Ophillians. Now that they have moved to the top spot in magic, we have seen new and more interesting spells come out of them. They have the more traditional magi as expected, but the more interesting aspect to them is their warrior class. This group has always been disadvantaged and until recently was essentially a giant wall of cannon fodder. Now however, they found a way to enchant their armor and weapons with magic, allowing for new horrifying creations that have wreaked havoc accross the land, from exploding arrows, to shields that can set yours on fire, this army is not one to be dealt with lightly. That said, Arcoove is much more than their armies, they have used their magic to enchant the very city they live in. Automated doors and wells are scattered across what would normally be seen as an archaic and rudimentary city. An Arcoovian mage is usually split in to an arcana class. The four basic elementary magics are all present in their army, fire, water/ice, lightning, earth, but there is so much more. See, the school of healing is widespread in Arcoove and is considered one of the highest honors to be one. An elite few have even used their powers to make their skin hard as iron and their reflexes, speed and punching power brought to ascend beyond the Elseyad half-beast. Finally, we have also witnessed the school of Summoning in a few select magi. The practice of this has been banned by all factions, however; the act is still ever present, and army officers preforming dark arts are usually overlooked. Beyond those, there are still more spells and lesser known schools, and possibly even secret ones hidden from their enemies prying eyes. The Arcoovians are indeed a mysterious lot.

The land of the Bodneri clinks and clanks to no end. With their constant innovations in technology, they quickly rose above all others in their lands and overwhelmed all but the Arcoovians. Their relations with the Ophillians were always rocky, their constant struggle to learn and innovate nearly brought them to declaring war on the Ophillans in an attempt to gain more information on their superior technology. Their skin is naturally darker than that of their neighbors and they are significantly shorter in stature. Their biggest and most important innovation comes by far in the "Multitool". A shield structure that can also become several different weapons ranging from a sword, to an axe, a hammer and even a cannon. The transformation process takes but mere minutes and from a shield to a weapon and back, miliseconds. Their main infantry carries a simplistic version of this in their shields. Which are notched to hold their crude firearms. When in desperate times they can make their shields in to a pike. The second class and the real hammer comes with their mech class. A human like contraption that moves via steam power and carries the true multitool. The pilots of these take years to master the little details of controlling these masterpieces. Finally, their ultimate weapon is "The Destroyer". Inside this monster of metal, which looks like a large rolling wall, is usually their greatest and most esteemed generals. The weaponry on these usually consists of several dozen cannons with hundreds of holes for their guns to fire through. Bodneri society is mostly a beurocracy. With the highest and most powerful companies taking over and creating a class system. At the bottom of this, and usually forming the infantry are the "Non Relates", or people who are not even within the families of the rich. Those distant relatives form the "Halfies", these usually pilot the mechs, though Non Relates skilled enough have also been known to pilot them. Finally, we have "The Innovators", those of direct descent or the people themselves who own companies, the richest and the most powerful, if they ever go to war they control a Destroyer. While not versed in transformation or magic, the Bodneri make up for it in their creativity and quick thinking.

Character sheet:

Name:
Race:
Abilities/weapons (if Elseyad, mention animal here):
Age:
Personality:
Appearance (any features, height, etc):
Biography (if Bodneri, be sure to mention social level):

Character sheet:

Name: Artreous Koraval
Race: Ophilian
Abilities (if Elseyad, mention animal here): Untold ammounts of magical abilities. Master of the Ophillian magic and technological marvels that surround it. Although the scale of his abilities was unknown, it is thought that he could level a field full of people if he wanted to badly enough.
Age: Presumed dead at 35, though if by some miricale he is alive, he would be 43.
Personality: He was an open and seemingly kind man. Everything he did had a calculated air to it, seemingly like he had already worked it out in his head beforehand, even in conversation. He was always open to new ideas and seemed very engaged in whatever he decided to do. Though he always kept secrets, enjoying being one step ahead of even his allies. It is a good thing he had little global ambitions, otherwise the world would have crumbled.
Apperance (any features, height, etc): It has been some time since he was last seen, but when we did see him he was tall and muscular, very impressive oveall. His face lacked flaws of any noticable kind and his hair was long and dark. His features were soft and his eyes were an eerie red from what we can presume was a spell gone wrong.
Biography (if Bodneri, be sure to mention socital level): He was born a prodigy, showing innate magical abilities beyond that of some who had been studying for years at age five. By the time he was twenty, he had mastered everything available to him. Any knowledge past this is unknown, contact with the Ophilians was ceased, but it is rumored that he was the leader of the Preservers. The Preservers were said to lead the more positive relations with outsiders and focused more on technology over magic in general.

Combat in this will work in this way. The two will act it out for five to ten turns. If by ten turns or posts each a winner has not been decided by whoever out-wrote or out strategized the other, my co-gm and I will decide a winner, we will PM both fighters the results and the fight will be ended accordingly.

Please read these in order as I put them in a way that would make it easiest to understand this new world. Because of finals, we will be starting at the end of may, I need people of various races to appear in this as well.

EDIT/DISCLAIMER: We will only accept 2-3 people per race and we need an even spread. If we have 4 people as Elseyad and 2 people for the other 2 races, I will have to tell 2 Elseyad that they can not participate, so it would be recommended to either make two sheets or spend some time on your sheet.

This sounds sorta cool. One question though: just how advanced is firearms technology in this RP? You said the Bodneri have simple guns, but how simple?

So I get that the Elseyad are shapeshifters, but what kind are they? What I mean is, when they shift, do they leave their stuff behind, go into some kind of pocket dimension, or the stuff they were carrying turn into their little markings?

Also, what level of tech do they have? Flint spears, steel, carts? Or just complete nomads with little more than a pouch with some dried meat in it?

Think muskets. Innacurate but effective in groups.

Tech wise, think spears, arrows etc they aquired steel via trade so that is their extent. They transform in to their animal like banner becomes the hulk. Yur animal can be any mammal within reason. I dont want any were-whales lol.

Ok, so standard shapeshifters is what we've got with steel weapons.

What about were-dolphins?Or chipmunks? what's your stance on raccoons?

But on the somewhat more serious side of things, do they travel in fighting groups(wolves with wolves, bears with maybe another bear, hunting cats solitary, etc.)? Is each clan known for producing a specific type more than another, or is each group a hodge-podge of animals? And I'm going to assume that each shifter has at least some aspect of his animal form besides his tail(slitted eyes? hair being the same pattern maybe?)And is the standard method of travel their animal forms, some kind of carts they have the were-rhinos, elephants, etc.(no shiftist) pulling them. And how many are in an average sized band?

Sorry for asking so many questions, but they're somewhat important for the idea I've got.

I will just give you the skimmy on these guys then. Because Miles and I actually did discuss this, we just wanted the intro to the races to be a bit shorter. Each Elseyad when he/she becomes twelve years old transforms for the first time. No clan is specific to any animal as it is really just based on the personality to the greatest extent combined with genetic predetermines. If you want to be a were-chipmunk, it is on you when the Bodneri step on your ass. While most features will vary vastly depending on the animal, their skin is always purple. So yes, if you are a cat you might have slitted eyes or something. Beast form is basically a hulking humanistic version of whatever animal. So they are going to be bipedal no matter what. Think the druid class from Diablo 2.

Potential interest.
Question
So can the Elseyad only do the species you've listed? I noticed they're all mammals? Is it mammals only? It's just one of the potential character idea I?d come up with as a bird Elseyad.
I had debated about this actually, I personally do not think a bird would work. You could be a bat though if you are hell bent on flying.

Name: Gavin Martres

Race: Arcoovian

Abilities: An adept illusionist, also knows some summoning magic and has a fair degree of elemental magic.

Age: 26

Personality: Gavin is cold and placid. He is very controlled and doesn't often show his emotions, a sign of his illusionist background. Aside from that, he is very ambitious and is always up for a challenge. He has a sense of his own superiority that comes through as casual arrogance.

Appearance: A bit on the tall side, around 6 ft, and quite slim. Gavin is a bit pale, a mark of his background as a dedicated scholar. He has short, well-kept brown hair and pale blue eyes kept behind glasses. He is a fairly handsome man, overall.

Biography: Gavin was born with a strong inherent magical ability which he cultivated from an early age. At the age of 8, it was discovered that the young boy had a talent for illusion magic, an uncommon magical subschool. His arcane studies were expanded, and his work, even young as he was, quickly piled on as his parents and teachers wished to develop the young boy's powers. The work quickly consumed his life and distanced Gavin from his peers, but he was fine with that, magic was his passion. Gavin dreamed of one day enrolling in one of the Ophilian's esteemed arcane academies, but shortly after turning 18, just before he was about to apply, it was learned that they vanished. It was a shocking development, but an opportunity for the enterprising young lad. He began a series of experiments, determined to push the limits of arcane knowledge, determined to get to the head of the fields of magic that were rapidly expanding to replace the Ophilians. At the age of twenty, Gavin put his powers to the use of his nation by serving in the diplomatic corps and spying on the other nations for Arcoove. He left the diplomatic corps after four years to return to his private work in magical experimentation. Until recently, he had been serving as a teacher at one of the academies in the capital.

Name:Taryn
Race:Elseyad
Abilities/weapons: Panther shifter, normally only carries a pack filled with well-done carvings, intricately detailed, which he sells, and doesn't often carry food as he'll just hunt as he travels, water is the exception to the rule however. The only other thing of value he carries is a set of carving tools. He carries an 8-inch dirk at his side and has rarely seen the need for most clothing, sticking to simple things that can be repaired and carried easily.

Age:38

Personality: Calm, until action is called for and he strikes, swiftly and from the shadows. This is in everything he does, from simple bartering to fighting to hunting. He has gotten over most of his tells with his tail, but it still betrays him at rare times

Appearance: 5'10, 140 lbs, raven black hair which always seems to be well-groomed and cat-like eyes. The tail looks as any panther tail does. Albeit with a golden bracelet over the top of it.

Biography:Born into a traveling clan Taryn was ecstatic when he was able to change and travel with the adults, though it took him a few years to master his form and the instincts that rose to the surface. He soon was hunting and traveling with a host of other Elseyad. He made his first kill within his first year of changing, and learned how to carve from the bones that were left from the meal, and began trading them for food when he needed it, though mostly he gave them away for information, favors, and eventually learned to read from a caravan his group was traveling with and protecting from the local wildlife and the occasional highwayman group. He began feeling a need to leave and be on his own from his animal side very soon after he first learned to change into his half-beast form, and is both exhilarated and scared of the power one wields when in that form. He felt a disconnection from family and left to travel the world.Which he did, he worked as a minor mercenary for a time, but eventually simply quit that as well and began following the wind, which brought him to where he heard of the Ophilian city that was discovered. He immediately left, curious as to what may lay inside and perhaps a carving or two to take as his own, should there be any.

Two things, the sheet is fine but please clarify on how your illusion magic will work, like is it hallucinations or what? Also, summoning magic is really draining in this world, if you do it, you will have a really tough time with it early on. Just a warning.

Overall though, the sheet is fine, I would like there to be a minimum of 2 arcoove, 2 elseyad and 2 bodneri but 3 each would be great.

Here's my idea.

Illusion Magic- A school of magic that has two parts, those are as follows.

-Internal: Internal illusion magic focuses on manipulating the mind of the target. This manipulation allows the caster to make the target perceive stimuli in a different manner, or those that don't exist at all. The most advanced in internal illusion magic can even manipulate the dreams and memories of their targets. This branch of illusion magic relies heavily on subtlety. If the target is aware of the magic being used against them, or has a very strong mind/will, then the difficulty associated with casting any given internal spell increases exponentially.

-External: External illusion magic focuses on creating constructs of light to baffle and deceive others. This branch of illusion magic requires more power and is, arguably, less directly effective than the internal branch, but is more reliable in most situations. The primary focus of the external school is the creation and maintaining of light constructs, advanced practitioners of external magic can create more detailed illusions, moving illusions and sounds to go with them. Some of the most advanced illusionists are said to even be able to craft smells to go with their illusions.

A bit of a delay from when the question was initially asked, but I wanted to fully think through how this would work.

I present a hypothetical reserve.I have exams tomorrow, and more across the next month, but this does not necessarily rule out my participation.

I would be a stoic Bear-Elseyad, who prefers his own company and spends much of his time in the wild. He is comfortable in the wilderness, needing no tools or equipment to survive, and spending much of his time in Bear-form...

Finally I found this! Sorry for taking so long with exams and other RP's and what not but I am a man of my word. But I do have a few questions concerning the Bodneri

1. Are we allowed to have our own mechs as long as it complies with the tech constraints?

2. Bodneri are strictly no magic right? Or can there be some deviations in alchemy?

Other than that you will see a sheet from me once my questions are answered. Glad to see this RP here and good luck to everybody here!

Alchemy is ok, it kind of fits with the steampunky feel. I would have to see your mech but it would probably be ok to customize it. Also, it is good to see you make it in!

Using one of those will be a bit unfair to the regular foot soldier XD

But thanks for the link, it helps with my idea on a mech.

Name: Fallon Calces
Race: Bodneri
Abilities/Weapons: Mech pilot. She also has a few cast iron balls filled with explosive powders. On the field she carries one explosive grenade that is primarily lit by fuse, and two grenade that releases a smoke cloud for retreat or signaling. Other than that she has a short dagger in a sheath on her leg. Her mech throws the grenades but has to drop the Multitool that it carries in its free hand. On the other hand is a strong, hardy blade built into its arm. She also has caltrops at the ready in a storage pouch built into the back of her mech.

Age: 30
Personality: Strict, stern and stoic are words to describe Fallon. She often lets her actions speak for her instead of her words so she keeps to herself most of them time. Fallon also relies on herself rather than others, believing strongly in independence. This professional approach to her driving has worked for her, so far and she has no intention of giving it up. Fallon is no fool in combat either and is very aggressive in her actions.
Appearance: Fallon is short like most of Bodneri and is relatively thin. She has dark brown eyes and auburn hair wrapped in a bun. There is a star-shaped scar under her right eye and the tattoo of her family crest on her shoulder blade. On the battlefield, she wears the standard Bodneri uniform for mech pilots with a sheath for a dagger on her leg.
Biography: Born into the "Halfies" social group, Fallon was better off as compared to most Bodneri but not the ones on the absolute zenith of the social ladder. The "Calces" family in particular was a family that helped pave the way for firearms to be put into the hands of Bodneri infantry with their tinkering in Alchemy, a practice that still makes rounds in her family. She is the eldest in her fairly large family but not the first to be in the fighting forces. Her father was a mech pilot before her so she took upon herself to be in the Bodneri military as well. Fallon had a longer time, training in the use of her mech but it was time well spent as she made a name for herself with her mech in combat. She also dabbled in Alchemy like much of family still does as they try to find a way to make the gunpowder more efficient and deadly at the same time. Somewhere along that road, Fallon's father discovered a way to harness the gunpowder's explosive power without resorting to barrel tons being used at a time. He tested them out and they worked well but to test them out on the battlefield, he gave them to Fallon. As safe tested as they are, the "grenades" are still in the experimental phase. The father still very cares much for Fallon especially with word of the powerful city of Ophilia being abandoned with the riches for the taking.
