hi everyone
this isnt another MW2 thread BTW, i was playing through CoD: WaW a dn i was thinking, when will game designers realize that most people think/know that Nazi's=bad. im tired of all the war games(CoD mostly) putting me in germany to kill hitler as someone from england or from russia(with love). dont get me wrong, i love the CoD games(ive played 2-Waw) but im wondering when will they pick another war for us to fight(and im not talking about MW type stuff, something new). let me know what you think.

ps. this is my first post, love the site BTW :)

Well. Nazis were led by undoubtedly evil people, that's why they are so popular. I'm wondering when we're gonna see Wermacht soldiers depicted as normal people fooled by propaganda or even doubting their leaders. On the other hand - seriously. Where's games about WW1,or Napoleon's conquests,or whatever!

About Vietnam War. As Moviebob said,"if you really want to experience a violent, directionless clusterfuck which will leave you physically and emotionally scarred for the rest of your life, there's always Shadow The Hedgehog".

***

And now,obligatory speech.

I am Kollega, and I'm here to ask you a question: "Is a man not entitled to a sweat on his brow?"
"No," says the man on eBay, "It belongs to the poor!"
"No," says the man on religioustolerance.org, "It belongs to God!"
"No," says the man on Facebook, "It belongs to everyone!"

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different... I chose the impossible... I chose...

The Escapist!

A forums where the unpopular would not fear the censor, where the Moderators would not be bound by petty morality, where Gone Gonzo would not be constrained by the troll! And with the ache in your fingers (and maybe a new keyboard), The Escapist can become your forum as well.

Second World War is very well documented and long enough ago to be taken advantage of as it is, I wouldn't mind fighting in other areas, like north Africa against the Afrika Corps, as the battles between the British and Nazi's there were amazing and followed the rules of engagement (one of the few battles that has since trench warfare took over). Other FPS settings are difficult, older the game would be to slow, more recent the setting may be to fresh in the public's minds.

(I say public's minds as I imagine actual combat is always fresh in veterans minds)

But we're not even killing Nazis most of the time. It's just ordinary German Army guys. And if we have to get all sentimental.. were they really that evil?

enough of the PSA
I'd like to see something new like I know some people have wanted Vietnam... but. I dunno, doesn't suit my tastes. Unless they make a level called 'Charlie Don't Surf, proper' or something.

But hey, theres always WWI. No ones really touched that. I dunno

That is true but most was trench warfare which means sitting on your ass waiting for the shelling to stop and the enemy to rush your line.

...then there's that damned yellow gas, rolling across the field.

Play the Borthers In Arms series. Best WW2 shooters out there, imo.

IMO, BIA doesn't demonize the soldiers you fight against, because, if you think about it, they're exactly the same as you, just in a different uniform, by theway they behave in game.

WW2 was a big war with a lot of violence and good pacing, as in not as much waiting around like in WW1, or the war being over when your ground forces actually get to their destination of the Gulf War.

World War Two was fought with more or less modern infantry weaponry and ended in unambiguous victory for the good guys. That is why video game designers keep returning to it. If you go earlier, you're losing all the good guns. If you go later, it's a lot harder to make the player this big heroic figure while maintaining credibility. The only way to do so is with hypothetical or fanciful wars.
