Warcraft 2 help

Can i play warcraft 2 on a vista laptop? I havent tried yet as one of my friends described it as jamming a video into a dvd player and this put me off a little bit.

I used to play it on the house pc as that is really old and crap but that kind of just died a little bit XD

I haven't tried it, but it might work if you set compatibility mode to Win 95. No guarantees though.

Blizzard games pretty much work on any Windows versions even the ancient Diablo 1.

Yea this shoudln't be a problem. with what red said a few settings adjustments may have to be made but it should run.

Get dosbox.
It's great, it works, it's easier (imo), and if you learn some console commands, you can even trick War 2 into thinking you have an IPX network so you can play LAN games with it. :x

Hm, he doesn't even have to use DOSBox. It's too complicated for a none tech savy.

It's true. DOSBox is an amazing tool but he won't be able to play multiplayer using the IPX protocol anyway as Vista and Windows 7 don't give any support for them any more.

EDIT: Doesn't WarCraft 2 use the LAN protocol?

I've done this, but it doesn't seem to work. When i try and open it, it comes up with this system does not spport fullscreen mode

Well, then you could try DOSBOX. It's not a friendly tool so you'll have to search the internet for tutorials.

Yah. DOSBox isn`t so hard. Just google it up and voila. I personally like to remember old times and play some DOS games (Dune, Warcraft 2 mmm....)

Warcraft 2 battle net edition does.
The original Warcraft 2 does not - supports IPX.
DOSBox doesn't actually tell win7/vista to use IPX, it emulates and IPX network over your TCP/IP network (very fucking awesome indeed) so old games that didn't have a lan option actually -do- now, because they think that you have a null modem cable between the machines involved.
