THIS IS TOTAL SPECULATION! THIS IS MERELY A FUN TOPIC FOR ANYBODY WHO WISHES TO DISCUSS IT. I
So here's where I was going with this, back in the spring, after I had finished Mass Effect the first time (I thought it was good), I started playing WoW; I got bored of it a month into it. I canceled my subscription and went back to Mass Effect, when I had an epiphany...
This is one of the best RPG ever.
Seriously, there are so many worlds and models that would benefit greatly from Bioware's story-telling and gameplay standards. But Warcraft is the first that comes to my mind.
Contrary to the uninformed, Warcraft isn't a Tolkein rip-off, more of an creative tribute that plays around with high-fantasy conventions It has some nice unconventional twists to races and magic and history that typically comes from nearly two decades of games. Azeroth is very colorful, visually and ideologically.
My ideas (beyond when it should take place anyway) were that you could create a character of either gender (like in ME), but also allow you to pick your race, you background and such. You would become enveloped in a plot that slowly unfolds before your eyes. There is also a lot of potential for conversation/dialog options, with a vast array of voice actors. And in my opinion, both companies have the best composers...have them team up...
And as Blizzard's cinematics and stories goes to show, a joint project between Blizzard and Bioware could create a ground-breaking RPG of epic, Wagnerian proportions. Just think about it...
massive battles/sieges, harrowing duels of might and magic, continent-trekking journeys. It's all there. And come to think about it, Bioware could definitely work in the theme of race issues like they did in Mass Effect, especially if you could have team members from both sides (Tauren/Elf, Orc/Human).
WoW barely registers as an RPG. Story and emotional investment take a back step for endless grinding and raiding, without any sense of payoff that the ending of Mass effect gives. A traditional, honest-to-goodness, story-driven RPG.
Well, one can hope I guess.
Post your ideas, (or trash me, if you get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside from that). Remember that this thread is more for the sake of hypothetical discussion and speculation than anything else.
