"The team is aiming for 1080p 60fps on Sony's next-generation machine, but they're also aiming for something even more ambitious: cross-platform compatibility.

For gamers who may not be able to afford a high-end gaming rig or for gamers who already have a gaming rig and can't afford a PS4, the option to play with your friends no matter what platform they're rocking is the kind of bipartisanship of which console war dream scenarios are made.

"[Creative Director Steve Sinclair] told Sony at the show that he wanted Warframe to be updated every week or two weeks, and that players would be able to team up with PC users using cross-platform. They agreed no questions asked. It surprised Sinclair as he initially feared there would be many political hurdles blocking his team?s ambition, particularly when cross-play was concerned. It was a non-issue for Sony.""

It also says you can use a mouse and keyboard on PS4 if you want, but I heard the game works fine both ways. :)

So HAPPY! I was afraid this wasn't going through.

Woot, been waiting to frag console players for ages, glad to see its finally being implemented.
It's a Co-op focused game that's very light on the Pvp, so don't expect to go in with the goal of just beating console players.

I know, I've played over 50 hours of warframe, however, this is a start into the directions of games in general becoming cross-platform which I've been wanting for years.

Not sure why I've been wanting it, but I have, it just makes sense for games to be cross-platform for me.

For a Co-op game like warframe cross platform play makes a lot of sense. Im also happy theyre shooting for 1080p and 60FPS, hopefully that will be the new standard for the next several years. Having console games locked at 30fps in the current generation makes many games seem sluggish to me

If this were a PVP focused game I would be a lot more concerned but Im happy about this

Good to know that it is technically possible. Let us see how it takes off.
It's always been technically possible, just never really feasible, both from a technological standpoint, and the difference in control schemes conferring unfair advantages to one of the platforms. Hopefully it takes off more now that the two big consoles are running off the same architecture as PC.

I think we will see more PS4/PC cross-play but not Xbone/PC... Microsoft isn't very keen on the idea. Defiance was supposed to be PC/PS3/360, but Microsoft wouldn't allow it.

Cool.
I can't see any PvP games going well with this whole technology but the Coop stuff should be fun.

same with Dust 514.
it was supposed to come to the Xbox aswell but MS didnt allow the server connection and so CCP decided that it is a PS3 excusive.

Yeah, I do think this will work.

Since the game is all about PvE, you will not have game be unbalanced like most shooters, which give either the console players (with aim assist) or PC players (with a more precise aiming controls).

But it was feasible. In fact, it's been done before. Remember that Shadworun shooter from back in 2007? This one [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun_(2007_video_game)]? Good times. Well, not really, since GFWL was ass and the game, while decent, still completely spat in the face of the original series (yeah the 2007 shooter was a reboot) in order to help sell Vista promising it would introduce a new generation of shooters that were cross-playable with the 360.

Good times.

Also, isn't Portal 2 on the PS3 able to play with PC users? I'm pretty sure Valve advertised that as a feature.

Yes, PC and PS3 players of Portal 2 can play together.

I'm not too sure what Warframe is, but isn't this the case for multiple next-gen games? I remember reading somewhere that loads of games for the PS4 will be cross-playable with the PC, and a publisher (I think it was Square Enix?) have said that they won't be releasing their games on Xbox One as it would require dedicated servers, not cross-play.

Indeed, and there's a fantastic irony in all of it. Sony more willing to work with a Microsoft platform than Microsoft is.
Honestly not sure if it's microsoft's disinterest or just their past experience with it. They've tried it with multiple PvP games and it always ended with the console players being dominated, so they stopped pursuing that line of thought. For co-op it might be viable, but considering the overwhelming focus on multiplayer PvP in games these days developing an entire framework for co-op only games might strike them as a waste of time.

Damn, a feature I can finally get behind and its for a game I don't really care for... not that the game is bad it just never interested me. Hopefully this feature will be utilized by more devs in next-gen games.

Well... time to give that game more of my money because that is a dream becoming real. Also I have to say if Xbox does not announce this it is a massive blow to me ever wanting one. I mean now I just want them to say "oh yeah and you keep all your profile and stuff no matter the platform!" I assume that wold be the case though.

this has been attempted before. however focustesting revealed that due to inferiority of aiming on a controller even beginner PC players were beating "pro" players on Xbox, so the idea was dropped altogether. It was a FPS game.
It could work better with Warframe.

While I have absolutely no idea what Warframe is :)P), I've gotta say I really do like this news. It sets a precedent. Hopefully if all goes well with this, it'll show game makers that it can be done, encouraging more of it to happen in the future, hopefully on games that I actually play. :3
