What I liked about Rogue Trader in its initial form, and it took a few decades for a forum user here, Gethsemane I think, to put it into words for me, was that humanity had basically won. There was no great existential threat. No chaos, Tyranids were a minor footnote, orks were a nuisance, no tau, no necrons, dark eldar kind of existed as a vague concept as eldar raiders. And life was still terrible, the galaxy was still a shit hole, because it was run by us.
Hmmm, now that you mention it, they went back to that with Necromunda. And almost, with Mordheim, there were some undead and skaven warbands and stuff, and loads and loads of various humans fighting amongst themselves.

Just recalled the Rick Priestly interview I posted earlier. There were basically no aliens because Bryan Ansell didn't think they'd sell. The only reason they had orks, eldar and squats was because people would buy those for fantasy games and they could sell conversion kits. It does amuse me that even the old stuff we look back on as being the "real 40K" in it's pure high brow concept, unsullied by commercialism, was just as driven by sales concerns as later on.

I've been getting recommendations - presumably thanks to watching Text to Speech Device - on YouTube about the impending boycott because of the new Custodes lore.

So, fucking hooray for that.

As if there aren't enough reasons to boycott Games Workshop as it is.

If they release a new set of models to go with this new lore, which will presumably be collected into a codex, I'm going to go and spite buy them.
I wouldn't, because I don't buy new models, but yeah, it's tempting.

They just released some new custodian models, so maybe more are coming.

Interestingly, there's a thing of painting 40k models in gay or trans pride colours, and one such force got featured in GW's White Dwarf magazine.

Rainbow Warriors, it's even lore accurate.

Not a hardcore fan, but here's some fan content I find entertaining. For the final video at the bottom, is there in fandom joke/reference I am missing?

Hmmm...Warhammer 34K eh? The Inquisition is watching you...

The weird 3 eyed, blue tinted bit at the end would indicate Tzeentch fuckery.

I think it's a 40k version of "a wizard did it", basically blame any weird shit on Tzeentch.

Girl custodians are fine, and they've been in the background since at least 2016. its only the rage baiters and click whores that don't even play the game that are shitting themselves.

Indeed.

As i jumped into Old World again and for that joined some Warhammer communities i can confirm that it is not an issue there. (If some people are upset about anything it is the discontinued AoS model ranges. But even that is low key.)

I kinda see the appeal.
But i also understand that a "all battles are meaningless" setting does not hold out well for a wargame and it got lost.

Oh yes, I get why GW has developed the setting, I get that a lot of people like it, it's just not for me. They do make some very cool looking toy soldiers and imagery, and I do have that sense of nostalgia for the old days, so I pop my head in from time to time to see what's up, but as soon as it goes any deeper than looking cool, it falls apart for me.

I mostly check out the website for MTO (or Old World) old minis on sale. Blood Axe Kommandos next week apparently.

Or to look at terrain for inspiration for stuff I can make of bits of wood and cardboard.

I regularly go to my local GW, and even the guys who have opinions about Anita Sarkeesian couldn't care less about lady Custodians, let alone this being the final straw/hobbyists are at war with GW woke MSHEU bullshit.

I'm pretty much just computer games now for GW, and not much at that. Will get Rogue Trader CRPG once it's 50% off.

Don't think I've bought anything model wise since the burning of prospero box set, which I sold along with most of my new unpainted stuff a few years ago, as well as any post Rogue Trader books and chucked my homemade terrain. My Rogue Trader era pile of shame is still pretty phenomenal though. I tried to finish off a couple of old plastic guardsman a month or so ago after a 4 or 5 year painting break, but my vision correction is so strong I can't focus up close anymore so it's not much fun.

I think a reason I fell out of favour with Warhammer was that I wanted epic battles with lots of troops, and over time GW moved towards a more skirmish-orientated model. It was painful to read battle reports about great armies led by the Emperor or whoever in White Dwarf, and realise it's got about 120 models - units of 5 knights representing the massed might of The Empire's greatest warriors. For the same reason I preferred Epic 40k to traditional 40k, which of course got discontinued. Well, that and the fact that the units ended up completely pointless: Warhammer was really just about who could stack their army with the biggest and toughest heroes / monsters / wizards (i.e. Chaos), although the group I played with had a house rule of limiting/banning these.
