Hey escapees I just got my first warhammer 40k army and was wondering....WHY ARE THEY SO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!
I went and got the tau battle force and it's 90$ and they're just plastic figurines and you have to build em yourself though I like it that way that doesn't mean it should cost more anyway. So escapist why are they so damn expensive??

...Because they want to make money, and they know people will buy them? People like you and me. I have a relatively small Necron army and a relatively small 'Nid army, and I've sunk about 250 dollars into it, if you don't include the rulebook, the codexes, and paints. Speaking of which, I need to start playing this game again. Haven't done it in forever. ._.

EDIT: also, people who buy one set of the models and then make their own molds in order to make their own models drive up the price a lot. I've come to understand there are a lot of people like that.

they probably only do that because it's expensive in the first place

Because market research has shown them that people such as yourself will pay a price like that. Which you did, proving them right. If you want lower prices, don't buy it. Vote with your dollar.

And that caused the prices to get jacked up even more. They need to supply the same things while still making a good profit, but less people buy them because they make their own models.

But, in either case, Warhammer 40K is amazing, and I'm sure you'll see quite quickly that your money went to good use. It is a really fun game to play.

ah, the catch 22 of every business. You dont' want to charge so much people pirate/steal/whatever your stuff, and yet you give a reason to when you jack up your price to try to compensate.

Anyway, I think it's a waste but then again, little figurines are very cool to have maybe 9000 just staring in silent battle formation at your door. I wish I had them. Risk is as close as I have gotten, haha.

Not to mention when you actually get an army fully painted and have a few battles with them, it is a beautiful thing.

Seriously, when I first got a few of my 'nids painted, I couldn't get over how good they looked. It's really cool to look at something like that and go 'wow, I MADE that. It looks awesome because of me.' I guess it's kind of hard to explain, but it's just a really nice feeling.

This is why I just play dawn of war. I get as many armies I want and it doesn't cost anywhere near as much. Also you don't have to build or paint them, so you can play if you have no artistic skill.

I'd love to get back into Warhammer 40k, but it's either that or video games for me, so I've kinda stopped playing altogether. If they lowered the price, they probably would make more money than they are now, honestly, so I dunno what their deal is.

As it's been answered, a few dozen pasty, greasy nerds (Sorry if this offends you but I've yet to see anyone who plays warhammer who wasn't either pasty or greasy) are willing to spend small fortunes on those little miniatures.
I'm not... greasy.

I suppose I am pasty though.

Its not that the materials re expensive, they are dirt cheap.
But shipping and the molds are EXTREMELY expensive.

Think its hard being a tau player?

As long as the majority of consumers continue to buy something, its price isn't going to drop.

Every greasy nerd says they're not greasy even though they're dripping grease onto their test papers at school.
I find that offensive! I'm really not greasy at all! I'm pasty, though.
