So, who'd buy that?

The thing is, Creative Assembly will, at some point run out of historic eras that they can make TW games for and they've already recycled two of them (albeit with brilliant results) and expansion packs will only last for so long. Sure there're a couple of less well-worn periods of history that deserve a look in, but I find that most do not have the grandeur or the variety that we've had in the past (Napoleon: Total War notwithstanding, despite the fact that it's my favourite of the latest gen TW titles).

Sure, Warhammer: the Mark of Chaos and Battle March have delved into the RTT aspect, but it's been very linear going from one battle scenario to another. It wouldn't take a genius to scour the codices and be able to come up with all the necessary unit rosters, building rosters and maybe even research aspects (I'd be tolerant of same concept/different name for different races) for a potential game. The world map is large and diverse enough to have a sufficient challenge in the starting position whether it is a lack of readily available resources (Dark Elves), a large but weak & fragmented starting position (Empire), limited elites in an otherwise shite army (Vampires) and so on and so forth.

And if they're feeling ambitious enough, they can start with just part of the Old World and slowly introduce the other regions (Lustria, Ulthuan, Naggaroth etc.) in successive titles, or give those lands their own games before merging the whole lot. I'm enough of a sucker for both WH & TW to buy the fucking lot...(!)

How 'bout you?

I'd rather see a Warhammer RTS in the style of LotR BFME2. I don't like the Total War style to be honest. Of course, improvements would have to be made.

Or, and maybe this is just crazy talk, but what about a faithful computerized implementation of the tabletop game? I've never understood why every computer strategy game that is licensed from a tabletop strategy game has to be an RTS with a new ruleset instead of just making a turn based game using the rules that are already there. It's not like the lore is the main attraction to Warhammer, despite the popularity 40K's lore has gained since the Dawn of War series. I grew up around Warhammer players, and I'd never heard of anyone seriously getting into the story until it randomly hit memetic status a few years ago.

If Creative Assembly made a game called Warhammer Fantasy: Total War I would buy it for two reasons.

One: Creative Assembly made it.
Two: It's called Warhammer Fantasy: Total War.

Honestly that sounds amazing. I know you can get mods of it, but mods have a tough time doing something really big justice without an ample supply of bugs. I so much prefer the Total War gameplay rather than a straight up RTS. I am still playing Medieval 2, in fact I am playing as Scotland right now.

I mentioned I would love a great Total War Warhammer version, but I agree with you. A Warhammer Fantasy game based on the actual tabletop game and all the rules that entails with it would be better. That would make being able to play as any faction and with any piece much easier without spending CRAZY amounts of money on tiny plastic pieces *which by the way I still enjoy*.

With great graphics, animations of all the classes and characters on the battlefield and with the same rules with dice and measurements...that would be a great game. Sadly I am sure many would disagree with a game like that. It's pretty much a cool looking chess or Shogi in way.

I wouldn't play it, but certainly wouldn't mind if developers gave it a shot.

Can we stop making the Total War franchise into something which has to deal with fantasy. It shouldn't ever do that, it's trying to be a semi realistic war simulator, leave it at that.

Find some other franchise for your dragon and wizards.

I would definitely buy that, but my concern would be that most factions would be very similar to Medieval 2 factions, especially the human ones, and also that it would be too much like Shogun 2. I really did not enjoy that compared to the others.
BUT
If they got it right, it would be amazing. I know there's already a Warhammer mod for Medieval 2, but no matter how good it might be, a professional one, especially a creative assembly one, would be better.

I would love to see a total war style game in the warhammer universe. I've never gotten into warhammer and that would be a great way to introduce me to the lore.

I'd love to have my Skaven horde run rampant.

Faithful to the tabletop game or Total War style (but no research elements, that would suck) would do me fine.

I'd buy it... but I'd sooner buy a new entry to Commander Bernhardt's adventures.

The thing is that they're going to run out of periods of history that focus on major empires and if they continue to make endless sequels then people will lose interest. Fantasy and sci fi settings would be perfect for Creative Assembly to re-innovate their series.

OT: I'd support it if it was their own IP fantasy game.

I would buy ten copies. It wouldn't even need the license really, but I want a Total War game where I can get access to really crazy units in a setting that's less dry and historical.

Why stop there? Go to Warhammer 40,000, that could be damn fun too. Hell, Dark Crusade and beyond have a Total War-style Campaign.

Eh I have no interest in Warhammer myself. I think they should keep with purely historical settings, instead of fantasy. What I really would like to see is a sort of Bronze Age: Total War or even a Classical Greece: Total War. Granted, mods for Rome are doing that, but it's not the same as a fresh game.

Rome 2 would be nice, but i've been a CA fan for years now, them starting on something fantasy based could be a cool spin off. I mean I know they've always gone for realistic but surely they could use those realism rules to make a fantasy style total war even more fun.

I hope they don't touch any of the world wars though, that would suck.

I would love a Warhammer one though. And a Lord of the Rings one.

Rather than having Creative Assembly make a WFB RTS/TBS, would it be feasible for Paradox Interactive to create such a game? Having spent a lot of time recently on Crusader Kings II and now on Warlock:MotA, I could see PI having a fair crack at developing a Warhammer game (Although, techinically, this topic is a moot subject, as Bioware/EA still have control over the WFB IP, for the next decade - as far as i'm aware).
