I just lost all my PS3 data (flipped a switch a half-second too early. At least it was my own fault and not the system killing itself like if I'd bought a 360)
any system that has the ability to lose all of its data is bad, i honestly don't see how you managed to type that without feeling like an idiot.

also, my xbox has got the RROD twice (grr) and i've never lost data, so i have no idea how you got the system wiping its own data information.
Turn the power clean off of any storage device while it's moving data. See what happens.

Like, do it with your PC, right now. Hit the defrag button and yank the power cord. Then you can moan on how the PC is such a bad system and on how the x360 will be chosen to bear the messiah's words.
That is, if it's back from service.

PS3 doesn't use memory cards (at least, not unless you buy them), it stores everything internally. So if, say, the system gets corrupted because of its owner being too dumb to realize how you're SUPPOSED to shut down a piece of hardware like that (and I assure you I DID feel like an idiot once I realized that one), you have no way at all of recovering your information.
