Ok guys and gals, I recently bought WAR and I have to say, frigging amazing. Not a WoW-Killer but extremely fun for anyone looking for something a bit different.

Anyhoo, to the main point. As a few people may already know, my computer is crap. I have the minimum requirements to run it but am lagging to beyond the ends of the earth (AKA, the teleporting happens). Would this be solved by upgrading my RAM from 1GB to 2GB, or any other suggestions?

Thanks guys.

Indeed it would.

P.S what is your video card? Pehaps ram isnt the problem.

GeForce FX 5200 *hides behind flame barrier*

Has all the required specs to run WAR but is not one of the named supported cards. Only AGP Card I could afford.

It's hard to say when I don't know the rest of your computerspecs.

But I run WAR on a pc with 2GB DDR2 RAM, and I find that is a minimum. One thing is whether you can run WAR, but you want to run it without lag, and you want to be able to run it with all spell/ability effects enabled(it's quite the advantage to know what your opponents are casting), so make sure you have a decent CPU and Graphicscard. I have a Radeon 4850, and that's enough.

...but manybe what you need is a new computer. If you only have AGP slots for graphics, you need a new motherboard.

It doesn't have to be too expensive. You'll really get most from WAR if you can have it on least medium settings, and not have lag. If you experience lag in PvE, then just wait to RvR...

No need to hide lad.

Geting both ram and a new video card would increase your performance drasticlly, but if you can afford only one, go for the RAM

I find the lag manageable in PvE (Chaos areas are normally deserted) but I already have done RvR (Nordenwatch). I actually find that Scenario RvR is less laggy than World RvR. I dont want to get a new computer yet, I'm moving to a new house in December and am going to get one then. At the moment, I'm just trying to make this one do its job for as long as possible.

Well, good luck in any case:) It's a great game, IMO(never played WoW, so can't compare).

World RvR is much more laggy that SC's, but that's because SC's are only on small maps, with limited players.

I take it you've only been i T1, so far. The RvR lag will get worse. Much worse. But I hope oyu can manage until december then:)

Have fun with the game.

So would upgrading my RAM help me reduce lag? And thanks.

when playing AoC I had the same lag like your having, namely teleporting, after upgrading to a 6800 it went away, so yea, either RAM or graphics card [I already had 4 gb of ram, so it was only the graphics card in my case].

also, off topic, yea, even with my set-up I lagged a little bit in RvR, so mess around with your settings before you jump in.
Yeah... I'm pretty much running WAR on minimum setting at the moment. None of the nice extras and with a fairly far view. Would an idea be to upgrade up to a 6200 and 2GB of RAM?

More RAM is always good, but it might not necessarily be the bottleneck in your system. Your video card sounds pretty crap, but for all we know your CPU is garbage too. Post your specs and we can see what's the real issue (or maybe your entire PC is just too old.)

Don't buy any Nvidia card that doesn't have a 6 or higher as second number.
Get a 6800 of any variety for the best performance.

CPU - 2.8Ghz AMD
GPU - GeForce FX 5200 128MB
RAM - 2x256MB 1x512MB = 1GB
HD - 80GB Boot + 200GB Data

Anything else needed?

Well your CPU sounds decent enough, but if it's as old as the rest of those components then you might be out of luck as far as upgrading, you probably need a new motherboard since AGP cards are rare these days, especially good ones.

I have WAR to, love the game, but it does suck up a lot of ram and you need a beefy video card for it to

Hmm... would an NVIDIA 6200 be sufficient? If so, I may just treat myself to that new Graphics Card AND some more RAM if I get the job I applied for. I get an answer Sunday.

Ok, well to begin with adding an extra 1GB of ram wouldn't hurt, its the cheapest and easiest way of seeing performance increases but...
As others have said it might be your GPU or CPU that are holding you back, I reck you should get an AMD Dual core, they are very cheap, i have a Athlon X2 4400+ which is a dual core 2.3 Ghz which is pretty poor but does the job, I think you should seriously condsider the Nvidia 7 series which i think is AGP, or sadly you'll need a new motherboard.

But if you do purchase a new motherboard than perhaps this is a chance for a fresh start with a much better Intel CPU :D
