Warner Bros. Admits Green Lantern Trailer Wasn't Very Good

Which is precisely the reason why you create the trailer as it's own unique mini-film from between 10-30secs (for a teaser) and 2-3 minutes (for a full blown reveal). The best ones always feel like that.

What is all this complaining for... I didn't think it looked that bad. I mean, I'm not going to see it because I don't watch many movies like this, but I'm really not seeing why everyone is acting like it's the worst trailer ever... it looks almost exactly like Iron Man and I thought people loved Iron Man.

Ryan Reynolds? Really? Look, my friend Martin put it to my better than anyone else: "The Green Lantern is a pimp, but not a funny pimp." Ryan Reynolds could make a good Flash, not a good Green Lantern.

Actually you don't need A LOT OF 3D effects for a trailer. Take a look at X MEN First Class Trailer as an example.
You do if it's Green Lantern. X men is primarily set on Earth, you don't need that many effects to get an idea of, "this is Earth bitches." A lot of Green Lantern takes place in space and other planets, can't do much on location shooting for that. When a movie uses special effects as much as this movie will, it's understandable why you'd see so many in the trailer.

That being said, trying to stay positive with this movie hasn't gotten easier, i just wan't to see it when it comes out without going in thinking i'm not going to enjoy it.

It wasn't the effects that made the trailer bad at all, it was the awkward comedy by Reynolds, juxtaposed with the seriousness of speaking the oath etc. It didn't work
Judging from the way he behaves in trailer, he's not playing Hal Jordan, he's playing Kyle Rayner or even Wally West (the third Flash). I know they have free reign, to a degree, but it just doesn't sit right with me
I think they've generally wasted using Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern, they genuinly should have made a Flash movie using him, and he'd have the perfect personality and look to pull it off. (Much as he pulls of Deadpool perfectly too).

Agreed. Although, the mouth stitching was the most ridiculous idea I've ever seen in a film. What made them think it a wise decision to seal shut the mouth of the 'merc with a mouth'?

On the plus side, the fact that they acknowledged the quality problems shows that they at least know about them. This isn't a dumb studio who fooled themselves into thinking they did a good job.

On the other hand, it's quite possible they're lying about the effects being any better in the final product. Only time will tell.

P.S. Thanks

This is typical studio bullshit.

"Oh, our last thing wasn't that good... BUT THE NEXT THING, it will be awesome guys!"

Then 2 weeks later they reboot it and the process starts again.

It wasn't the effects that made the trailer shit for me. There were plenty of problems with the trailer, blaming it on effects is the easy way out.

Watch the final product come out and see the effects get only slightly better.

I think casting Reynolds as the Green Lantern was inpsired, and here's why: the movie is going to feature a lot of scenes that take place in completely CG rendered settings. With more serious actors, that tends to be a problem. We've seen it countless times before; they put a bunch of great actors in front of a green screen, tell them they're on some faraway planet surrounded by aliens, and the whole thing falls completely flat.

Reynolds, on the other hand, is consistent. Like him or not, his delivery and personality aren't going to disappear the moment he's on a sound stage wearing a skin-tight green one-sie. He's going to ham it up, same as ever, and that's still better than the alternative - a mature, serious, straight-faced "actor" who has clearly blown a fuse because he can't properly see his on-screen partner.

Edit: that Nathan Fillion trailer was fucking amazing. If the creator wasn't working for a studio, he is now.

EDIT:
On second thought, they probably said this as an April fool's joke, and they actually think they're proud of the abomination they spawned.
And thus fanrage.cpp was born.

Me, I'm not sure whether or not to believe them.

When I first saw the official trailer my reaction was that it was no way near good as the fan trailer you posted.

As a few people have said, the studio completely missed the point of what was crap about the trailer. It was Ryan Reynolds shitty acting and poor characterization that ruined it, along with the indication of a lightweight storyline - not the effects.

Personally, I think Ryan Reynolds is completely wrong for the role.
