Warner Brother's JoJo release is stunningly terrible

This is the dvd release of JoJo by Warner Brothers. I've seen bootlegs with more effort put into them made more then 10 years ago. The DVD (and DVD ONLY!) release includes no special features, a pretty high level of episodes crammed onto each disk, terrible packaging, and DUBTITLES!

The totality of the effort put into the release seems to be a grand total of nothing, as they even subcontracted the dubbing to Bang Zoom. IT's one thing for Aniplex or Sentai to do that given their respective sizes, but Warner? They control the second biggest animation empires in North America after Disney, there is no reason they shouldn't be able to do the whole work in house. All this is on top of the fact that Warner has a history with Funimation, meaning they could have subcontracted them to make the whole DVD release for them.

Well Warner, I know someone who isn't getting my money. This ticks me off so much it's influencing my opinion on weather to watch certain movies from your studio I was going to watch otherwise. You are now officially the worst North American distributor of anime that doesn't work with hentai.

That's... really, really sad.

For Jojo, this is exceedingly depressing. I hope the dub's at least alright.

Hopefully they'll fix this at some point, after what will likely be a huge backlash.

Still a beter love story than Twilight.

Seriously though, that's lamer than... uh... than the slightly less lame things I saw at some other point in time.

Fun fact: the reason Why Warner Bros. is handling this release is because anyone else would get sued because several of the characters names are references to music. that seems to be fine with Japan law but for some reason that's a big no-no in America. it wouldn't be worth it to release it in America by a lot of smaller distributors like Funimation.

So you have the music industry to thank for this.

That doesn't explain why Warner didn't do a halfway competent DVD release, or subcontract the making of the DVDs to someone since they did the same thing for the dubbing.

I said to explain why Warner Bros. got their hands on it not why they did a shitty job with it.

Before entering this topic, I was only like...
"Please don't be Jojo's Bizarre Adventure."

Now...
FUCK!

Jojo deserves better than this, you assholes!
Although seeing the responses in this thread, it seems we have a lot to blame.

Are you sure that's not a bootleg? I mean, really really sure it's not a bootleg??

I mean, not even Dio (or John Cena) is that cruel to pull shit like that... I refuse to believe that that's is the official US release!

Based on your avatar, it seems it is a doughnut that you are looking at. :p

Meh, Warner Bros is doing a shit job with their... everything. In other news, so is Konami. I think the only real question to be had at this point is which company is handling their assets worse?

Trick question, the answer is Atari.

I don't want to callously disbelieve Zontar over the quality of this dvd release, but I don't want to believe that someone would do such a half assed job either.
Especially with a property like JoJo.
If anything warranted a truly spectacular menu, it's JoJo.

I...wow, that's god damned awful.

If it's real, I mean.

Got any more screenshots or is that the only one? I'm kinda hard-pressed to believe that WB would release something THAT awful, even if it's for a relatively niche audience like this.

Yowch! That's terrible. Never seen anything that bad, even in bargain basement $2 releases.

I should note however (in relation to what I quoted here) is that Funimation (along with several other companies), do dubs, they subcontract several aspects of DVD production to a company in Australia called Madman entertainment.

(Those of you in Australia itself might recognise Madman as the company that distributes the vast majority of anime DVD's in the country).

I don't know the limits of Madman's involvement, but if you've got a DVD release from Funimation (or studio ghibli's films, amongst other things), you'll probably either see madman mentioned specifically, or the credits for DVD authoring and menu design will list the same 5-6 people, which belong to Madman Entertainment.

Would warner bros. subcontract something to Funimation if Funimation itself subcontracts it to Madman Entertainment? Seems a little convoluted...

Anyway, an odd little fact, but one I noted having about 100 or more DVD's (most of which are UK releases) and seeing the same people/company consistently credited with DVD menu designs...
An interesting niche I guess. XD

I have DVD compilations of short films made at summer film making clubs with better themed menus than that, and special features as well.

If you must know, this is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in a nutshell.

Also this:

OT: That is pretty lame looking. They couldn't even put some official art in the back round or something?

That was my first thought when I saw this thread. But I didn't remember Boz Scaggs doing any sort of duet with Ronnie James Dio...
