Max Payne 3:
A let down...
Not a bad game, but a letdown if you're a fan of the two previous games.

Nope not to everyone. I love them all. With MP1 being the top game and MP3 in the second place. The only thing i still don`t get is the missing skip option for the cutscenes.

You`ll get to play one of the best tps of this generation. Play it on normal or better start on hard, this way you won`t get to complain that the shootdodge is useless (you will have trouble if you try to play it like the usual cover shooter at this difficulty). MP3 has flaws but the gameplay is the best in the series. You`ll get Rockstar quality dialogue and a great variation of places to visit. Enviroments are beautifull and destructable. The Euphoria engine ensures wonderfull animations and death scenes. If you like violence you`ll love the gruesome bulletholes just watch the last enemy fall in a final cill cam and see him getting perforated in- and exit wounds included.

cons
- some cutscenes take away your weapons or leave you out in the open.
- Max seems to be a handgunlover. He doesn`t mind if you want to use a rifle. He just switches to a handgun after every cutscene (didn`t anoy me but i can understand people who are)
- mentioned it earlier but i`ll type it again. You can`t skip cutscenes and not everyone liked the style with double layers and flickering effects.
- Rockstar does a good job showing how Max ends up in Brazil, they don`t do a great job explaining Max motives later in the game and it turns out to be a bit of guess work why things turn out like this (i liked it and later collectible intel delivers some important background info for the story). This doesn`t have to be a con-point, the story just didn`t get served on a plater like it usual does with Rockstar.

MP3 seems to be some kind of love or hate game and the biggest flaw to me is the missing developer tool.

Amalur, there alot of content to the game, and the combat is deep for the genre if very easy, however it does drag on and feels like a MMO at times. I grew tired of the game less then 1/4th way through it and I'd already put alot of hours into it.

I'd say it's atleast worth checking if you are fine with not finishing it if you get bored.

Max Payne 3, haven't played and don't want to as from what I understand it's very unskippable cutscene heavy and rarely gives the player control for any length of time.

As an offbeat suggestion for a fast paced game YS Origins on steam (plus theres another Ys game on steam too)

Think of 2d zelda but very fast, fluid gameplay for the genre, theres RPG leveling but unlike others of it's ilk if you want to make the fights easier you only need to grind for a couple of minutes rather than hours. Boss fights are very good oldshool Japanese pattern recognition style fights.

Serious sam and painkiller are fast paced FPS.

Or you could try a hack and slasher like DMC3/4/5 or Onimusha 3 or any other Capcom TPS. Dunno how the PC ports are though.

I have PoE, couldn't get into it after finishing the current content for the first time. Is chapter 3 up yet?

As for World of Tanks I could never gather enough patience for it after I reached tier 7 and noticed how fast my credits were drained. Is the game a bit easier on the grind nowadays?

Yeah act 3 is up.

I would reccomend Far Cry 3. Great shooter, decent plot, great stealth, and great world, and best villain EVER!

Judging by your initial post's requirements, the game you are looking for is Firefall...because it has all of that. (How did nobody mention it, yet?) Last I checked - which was a couple months ago, to be fair - it was a little edge-rough, but quite fun, and I know they've made significant improvements.

Also, my go-to addiction has been Mechwarrior Online. I haven't played any of the previous entries, and I don't know if you have, but given you've played World of Tanks, the comparisons will be quite favourable.

XCom - I haven't played the new one, however the over whelming love the game gets seems to need a few notes, from an observers point of view the game has some bugs, a few that may make you reload, but not too many. If you are looking for a some what fair hard-strat game then you need to basically ignore the hit percentage markers as I understand it. It is a bit of a streamlined system of the older games, but that makes it easier to pick up and play.

Things I'd not about the new X-Com game

You don't need any knowledge or previous play of any other X-Com game to fully enjoy the new one.
You can move then shoot, or move then move, but you cannot shoot then move
There are cover mechanics, be aware of your cover and understand that walls and objects will not protect you much
Your squad sized on missions is limited to an initial 4 members, which becomes 6 as the game progresses
Weapon load outs are very dependent on character class

None of these are game breakers, just know what you're getting into, by all means if it sounds good, play and enjoy.

Just a note here: I checked in the Banhammer thread if there were any consequences on reviving thread and I couldn't find any.

I'm interested in the games Tactical Intervention(the one with the thread I created) and Star Conflict(Referred to as World of Tanks in Space.

I loved WoT but it was too grindy, so if Star Conflict eases up the grind a bit I'm all game, but feel free to provide some pros and cons based on your gameplay...(I've seen the WTF, the first impressions of something compared to WoT makes me uneasy.)

I'm game for Tactical Intervention if it's not a copycat like AvA, Crossfire, Combat Arms and whatnot.

I know the games are F2P and all, but I can't really spare the time to download something for two days then starting it up to be a crapfest, so please excuse my laziness to try them myself.

If you haven't tried Team Fortress 2 yet, now's a good chance.

As for Hitman Absolution - Not the best (or worst) in the series in my opinion but definitely the easiest one to start from. If you find the concept interesting - give it a try.

And as for XCOM: Enemy Unknown - It's fantastic! I haven't played the previous games either and I enjoyed it very much. A word of warning though, if missing a 90% chance shot and not being able to redo it will frustrate you, you may want to reconsider.

Thank you but that was not why I had bumped the thread. Suppose I should update the OP.

Also, screw XCom. The game is great and all but after my 11th classic game I'm starting to think the difficulty comes from the AI that never misses and the stupid movement system that never tells you when you are in line of sight of an enemy or the absolute borefest of aerial combat that shouldn't even exist in its state.

I'm actually playing through Amalur a second time and I will second(third, fourth?) all the folks recommending it.
The overarching story is not too terribly original or great, but it get's the job done. Some of the side quests are actually very well put together for what the game is. Even the crumbier ones are a step up from the inch deep quests in Skyrim.
It also has skill checks in the game, though they don't appear too terribly often. Just enough to keep things fun.

The combat is really what the game's about. It's essentially Fable, but(even more)fun.
I will also confirm even on Hard the game is just a little too easy. You can help this by not using some of the crafting systems and other restrictions, but that is cutting a good portion of gameplay out of the equation.

It's got EA's name on it, but this is one of the better things that's come with their name attached.
